About 30 years ago I lived in Midland Michigan. Unable to find a job as a chef, I started teaching cooking classes. Long story short, 2 of my students thought it would be a great idea to write a cookbook together.
This was one of the recipes I created for the cookbook. Toasted Pecan Bourbon Brownies are similar to a borbon ball with hint of cloves but soooo much better. They will be available thru the holiday season!!

We are so pleased to share with you our 4th annual Everything but the Bird promotion! This year we are asking everyone to please place your order by November 15th and pick up will be Wednesday, November 27th after 10 am. You may pick up an order form at Betty's or you can message the restaurant on Facebook and I can email you a copy. Please remember that payment is due when you place your order either by cash, check or credit card.

That's right, Kahlua Cream Pie is back at Betty's! We have had so many requests for this, we had to make it again. First we make the most creamy chocolate cream pie filling, add instant espresso and Kahlua, allow to cool in graham cracker crusts then top with fresh whipped cream.

I would like to introduce you to Larry the lizard and his creators Linda Chamley Johnson and Deb Neuroth. The Legend of Larry was created after a precarious lizard found his way onto Linda's head. In honor of this beautiful (10 inch) lizard they created a pin is his image. Each pin is totally unique and is handmade by Linda and Deb right here in Sun City West. It even comes with a copy of the Legend of Larry. What a great gift for anyone that is a fan of the Southwest! You won't find Larry anywhere but Betty's so come in and pick one up today!

Do I have any apple crisp fans out there? I have tried many but this is my favorite. I started making this when I worked on Martha's Vineyard at the Black Dog over 30 years ago and it is still a much requested dessert at my house!

Our winter visitors are slowly coming back to Sun City West, along with our server Sarah! Welcome back, we look forward to seeing you soon!

Nothing says "comfort" like today's special. Betty's Favorite Grilled Cheese has been a favorite special around here for the past 7 years! We take sour dough bread, brush it with garlic herb butter, grill it with Swiss, provolone and muenster cheese add our thick apple wood smoked bacon and a cup of homemade creamy tomato soup for dipping!

I'm not a big pumpkin spice girl but I do love pumpkin pie, especially ours packed with spices and topped with real whipped cream, come grab a slice today!

It was so popular that customers asked for this again! Here we have our Pulled Pork with barbecue sauce and pineapple cole slaw. This will be our special Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Might I suggest our homemade potato salad to go with it?

We at Betty's make our biscuits from scratch with buttermilk, flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and of course butter! They are light, flaky and delicious, with a hint of sweetness.

This weeks breakfast special with be our homemade Biscuit with Gravy served with your choice of Coffee, iced tea or fountain beverage for $8.99.

We have had many requests lately for our Swedish Rice Pudding so it is back for the season! Enjoy at Betty's or grab one from the grab and go for later. It is one of my favorite comfort foods!

This is one of my favorite specials. We call it a "Hot Mess". We grill locally made marble rye bread top it with homemade thousand island dressing, melted Swiss cheese and then, thinly sliced and grilled pastrami and corned beef. It is finished with our homemade cole slaw and more thousand island dressing, at that point you will have a Hot Mess to deal with but man, is it delicious! We will have this today in limited supply so grab one early!

THINGS ARE TIGHT FOR EVERYONE RIGHT NOW!

We have all been feeling the effects of the economy for quite some time. So, this week we are offering something we have not done before.

We are calling this a "One Step", for $8.99 you will get one buttermilk pancake, one strip of bacon, one scrambled egg and your choice of coffee, iced tea or fountain soda (sorry hot tea is not included).

Each week, we will be offering a different, more economical, breakfast option.

Once again, we have had to change our Friday special. Therefore, our special today is a classic Tuna Melt. We grill sourdough bread with american cheese, grilled tomatoes and solid white albacore tuna salad and serve it with your choice of side.

Julia Child once said "A party without cake is just a meeting". I couldn't agree more. Come by for a slice of Hummingbird Cake or grab a baby cake from the cooler for a treat this weekend!

We had to make a change to our Friday special. This Fridays special will be The Codfather! A grilled brioche bun with tartar sauce, lettuce, ripe tomatoes and panko crusted cod. It was one of our most popular Friday specials!

A huge shout out to Karen and Sandi for their amazing decorating of the restaurant. The place looks great and ready for fall!

This weeks breakfast special is Kielbasa Hash and eggs. We cook all-beef kielbasa with red peppers, onions and potatoes then top it with 2 eggs, any style and green onions, served with your choice of toast.

One of our customers, last week, was really missing our Teriyaki Chicken Salad. So, we decided to make it this weeks special! We top shredded romaine and cabbage with red onion and edamame, then fresh pineapple with marinated chicken and teriyaki sauce and finally crispy chow mein noodles and toasted almonds.

As you may know, our fall menu premiered yesterday. Here are a few of our new breakfast favorites, Pecan Studded Pumpkin Pancakes and Bananas Foster French Toast. Which do you prefer?

Just a friendly reminder that we will be closed beginning tomorrow, August 30th , reopening at 7:30 on Tuesday, September 3rd. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day weekend.

When I worked on Martha's Vineyard, Labor Day weekend always signified the end of Summer. (Yes, I know it's still 110 out but a girl can hope for cooler weather)

So, here we have our end of Summer Berry Salad. Organic spring mix with Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries with thinly sliced red onions, toasted almonds, feta cheese and balsamic glaze.
