THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
Sun City CAN would like to thank the following volunteers by helping stuff envelopes, stamp, label, etc. for our annual fund raising event. Thank you Natalie, Ernie, Amy, Cheryl, & Kayla! We appreciate you!!
Dear Sun City CAN Supporters,
The 2020 Census revealed that 9.9% of Sun City residents are below the poverty line! That is about 4,000 of our neighbors who are getting by on less than $12.880/$17,740 (single/two person) annually. Just a few years ago that average was 8.4%. The number of people needing help in Sun City is increasing AND this is happening during a time when our donations from churches, clubs and organizations has been greatly reduced by the COVID epidemic. We need your financial support more than ever!
We write to you today to help us continue to make a difference in the lives of people in need. For years we have helped thousands of people totally free of charge. We could not have done this without your loyal support. Some of the things you have helped us do are:
Some Milestones
* Ten years ago we partnered with AARP TaxAide to prepare free federal and state income tax returns. Every year we file free tax returns for over 2,000 taxpayers.
* Several years ago we partnered with Sun City Meals on Wheels to subsidize the cost of meals for low income clients.
* Last year we partnered with Habitat for Humanity to paint the houses of low income people. Thus far we have painted six houses at a cost of about $2,500 each.
What’s New?
* Now we are partnering with St. Vincent de Paul to help low income people with a rent or mortgage payment. $20,000 is being included in next year’s budget for this new program.
These milestones and new Initiatives are only part of what we do to connect low income neighbors to services to help them financially. We ask you to continue to support our mission—we rely on your financial support to help those less fortunate in our community. THANK YOU FOR HELPING US MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

HELP FOR WATER BILLS
Sun City CAN officials moved forward on one new program and continue to research another.
The agency's board approved a program to help low-income residents having trouble keeping up with water bills. The program is like CAN's electricity and natural gas help programs, according to Hugh Duncan, CAN board president.
To be eligible for the program, low-income residents must be at least 65, have lived in Sun City for at least one year and have an income of $1,610 per month for a single person or $2,178 for a 2-person household. Successful applicants can have up to $150 paid on their overdue water bill.
TAX SEASON APPROACHING!
AARP will be doing 2021 taxes free of charge in our Sun City CAN location. This will be by appointment only. Call 623-933-7530 for an appointment in January 2022 or go to our website to schedule.

You can help support Sun City CAN by joining the Frye's Community Rewards program. When you shop at Frye's, a portion of what you spend will be donated to SCCAN. Following is information about the program, and how you can join! This past quarter we had 46 households participating and received $70.30 in donations.
The Kroger Family of Companies is committed to community engagement, positive social impact and charitable giving at the national and local levels. Every community is unique, but our common goal is to partner with the neighborhoods we serve and help the people there live healthier lives.
One of the ways in which we do this is through our Fry’s Community Rewards program. This program makes fundraising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping you do every day. Once you link your Card to an organization, all you have to do is shop at Fry’s and swipe your Shopper’s Card. Here’s how it works:
1. Create a digital account.
A digital account is needed to participate in Fry’s Community Rewards. If you already have a digital account, simply link your Shopper’s Card to your account so that all transactions apply toward the organization you choose.
2. Link your Card to an organization.
Selecting the organization that you wish to support is as simple as updating the Fry’s Community Rewards selection on your digital account. Select SUN CITY COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE NETWORK (Sun City CAN).
1. Sign in to your digital account.
2. Search for your organization here.
3. Enter the name or NPO number of the organization you wish to support. (Sun City Community Assistance Network).
4. Select the appropriate organization from the list and click “Save”.
Your selected organization will also display in the Fry’s Community Rewards section of your account. If you need to review or revisit your organization, you can always do so under your Account details.
3. Your organization earns.
Any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to the program, at no added cost to you. Fry’s donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating Fry’s Community Rewards organizations.
If you would like to donate Sun City CAN to help low-income seniors and other families in need, please go to our website and click on "Donate." Thank you!
