Hello Everyone,
I have a minute to sit down and wanted to share a few things that are currently on my mind. First off, we have been bombarded with kindness and I can't thank you all enough. It blows my mind how much animals can bring people together. While most of our animal experiences are joyous, we have had our fair share of sadness and losses prior to this one. As a mother raising three kids with my husband, these incidents have had a huge impact on my children. While I value sports and other recreational activities, I don't believe life skills can be learned in a more raw and realistic way than through raising livestock. Being responsible for the wellbeing of another living thing is a huge responsibility and one that my children do not take lightly.
Paul and I have been blessed with the opportunity to raise our family in this life and I try not to take it for granted for one minute. Since growing up in 4-H, I have embraced a love of learning and sharing my knowledge about animals. I am constantly trying to improve and then share my findings with anyone that wants to listen. Whether it is hatching chicks with seniors, goat yoga, or petting zoo events, I take every opportunity I can to make the experience fun and educational. That leads me to my next thought.
When we choose to bring animals into our lives, that is our choice, not the animals. As their caregivers, we are responsible for choosing to bring animals into our lives that are a good fit for them and us. It's not fair to the animals if you don't provide the proper environment and life skills for it to live a safe and happy life. As I'm writing this, I am already pondering the best way to make changes to my property so as to prevent this from happening again. I am starting with a new gate that is wire filled and hopefully taller. The other obstacle for my herd is that we are now more closely related than ever. While I am a line breeder, I will most likely need to bring in a new buck as the kids that are left are all from the same sire. While I cannot bring in any females, I can utilize bucks from outside herds to supplement my genetics.
My next thought is how critical it is to have access to a veterinarian. The closest goat vet to me is over 45 minutes away. Many people are very aware of the shortage of large animal vets. We need to support and encourage people that are willing to take on this career path.
While I am moved by the volume of monetary contributions, I struggle with the burden of using your donations in the most appropriate way. I was initially approached by multiple people that wanted to raise funds for us and I declined them all because we can not purchase replacement does due to our enrollment in the Scrapie Free Flock Program. With your blessings, I would like to honor the memory of the lost animals by supporting the following causes:
Vet Student Scholarships
Education about Spitz type dogs
Raise and Relish (A non-profit that supports farmers in SE WI)
4-H
I am posting this now so that if these causes don't align with your intended use of funds, you can make the choice to support us with your prayers and kind words in lieu of monetary contributions.
If you are moved to make a contribution, here are the various ways to donate:

Donation directly to Raise and Relish: www.raiseandrelish.org
We can't thank you enough for the love that you have shown us and our animals. Paul, Amy, Kaitlin, Wes and Anna
