Talk about hyperlocal gardening ➡️ School Garden Harvest Day at White Oak Elementary School yesterday‼️

Students harvested, washed & cut lettuce & kale that THEY GREW! Then, the made side salads 🥗 💚. SO IMPRESSED by these kiddos & it was a pleasure having them in one of our kitchens 🫶🏻.

👉A wellness policy is a document that acts as a guide for school districts to establish a school environment that promotes the health, well-being and the ability to learn for students. And, they are a requirement of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

👉🏻Check it out! Our Registered Dietitian, Kalin, was live on the morning announcements at Chattahoochee Elementary yesterday!

Our SNP Manager, Robert, invited Kalin on the air to share what she found at the Food Expo in Athens, Ga earlier this week. Students at Chattahoochee have requested a personal pan pizza for the menu! 🍕😎

Spoiler Alert ‼️ We have found a pizza & will begin testing it for quality, nutrition integrity & student approval 🙌🏼.

What a week! We got to spend 3 days on the UGA campus for a Food Expo & Director's Conference! Two AMAZING students from Seckinger High School joined us at the Food Expo & provided instant feedback on new products for K12🤩. The girls had a blast talking directly with food manufacturers and proving their invaluable insight on food and flavor!

And as if that wasn't enough, our program received a Golden Radish Award for our Farm to School program 🙌🍎🥦🍉.

We are SO thankful for opportunities like this where we can learn, network, team build and celebrate!

👉Meet Chef Margaret! She joined our team as District Chef in July and we are beyond thrilled! Learn a little bit about her below:

Moving to Duluth from a tropical island has made me miss the ocean terribly, however, we all adapt to our environment, and I have learned to appreciate the Chattahoochee River and the lakes that we have here in Georgia very much.

My family and I spend most of our summer weekends near a body of water and try to vacation by the ocean 😎🏖.

I do look forward to the Fall and it has become my favorite part of the year 🍂! I didn’t grow up with the changes in the seasons, but now I look forward to the changes in the weather, changes in the foods we eat, the festivals, and the traditions we are creating as a family like picking apples and pumpkin patches.

Not to mention, my favorite holiday, Halloween! 🎃 So far, I’ve been lucky that my kids enjoy dressing together as a family. I know that will be changing soon as they get older, but I’ll continue to hope it never does.

I love animals and would’ve been a veterinarian, but my phobia of frogs got in the way. We have 3 cats and one dog in our house as part of our family and looking to expand. Having pets is making my kids have the same love, kindness, and empathy for animals and that is my favorite part.

Another thing I love to do in my free time, believe it or not, is baking. I don’t get to do it as much at work, but since we all have a sweet tooth at home, I spend a lot of time baking special treats for friends and family.
