Pumpkins have become a part of our autumn culture—coffee, creamer, cookies, crackers, and even cake mix for dogs. Come autumn, almost anything you can eat is pumpkin-flavored. There are more than 40 varieties of pumpkins, and all are edible. As you are shopping, remember that small pumpkins are used for cooking. Also, don't limit your pumpkin experiences to just pie. Try pumpkin bread, muffins, and cookies. And if you're really adventurous, try pumpkin ice cream! At your local farmers' market, spend some time with the vendor to learn a little about the different kinds of pumpkins for sale and the different recipes you may want to try.

And as the farmers' market summer season is coming to an end, it's important to begin stocking up on your favorite fruits, vegetables, and other products that you love!

Celebrating its 30th season, the Rhinebeck Farmers Market has become Rhinebeck’s Sunday morning gathering place—a weekly popup neighborhood to munch, meet, mingle, and revel in the bounty of the seasons. The market promotes Hudson Valley agricultural products, supports local farmers, and energizes the town and village of Rhinebeck economically and socially. There are a variety of products that you can buy—including fruits, vegetables, eggs, dairy products, baked goods, homemade sauces, and more—from a host of different vendors.

The market accepts SNAP/EBT and Fresh Connect. Since 2017, or every $1 of SNAP benefits redeemed, the market matches that spending with a $1 Plus token, doubling the purchase power of participants. SNAP customers also have the opportunity to receive a $2 Fresh Connect coupon (up to $50) for every $2 of SNAP processed.

OUTDOOR MARKET

The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market is year-round in downtown Troy, New York, whose mission is “to create and operate a producer-only, year-round, independent, vibrant marketplace featuring locally grown food and locally made products, for the mutual benefit of local producers, consumers, and the community.” During your market experience, you can enjoy live music featuring local musicians providing a lively soundtrack.

The City of Rochester Public Market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, year-round, except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Days, or Independence Days that fall on market days.

Selling from over 300 vending stalls, vendors offer local produce, produce from around the country and world, meats, seafood, eggs and dairy products, baked goods, ethnic delicacies, prepared and packaged foods, specialty items, general merchandise, and more in three covered outdoor vendor sheds and also a fully indoor shed. Customers will also find a variety of independent local businesses on market grounds and in the surrounding market district.
