Its that time again!

I'm so excited about 2024 especially after the crazy year '23 has been. Thank you for reaching out with your support in response to our losses.

There are some new additions coming to the service menu. Well they aren't new, they took a hiatus from the menu but facials will be back and available for you to schedule by Spring. There will be one new service called brow lamination. It's really cool and makes your brows look AMAZING! More info coming soon.

Schedule and The Waitlist

I do my best to make changes to the schedule as little as possible, this way it's easier for you to know when' I'm available. My regular schedule is Friday - Sunday. I will not be able to accept any appointment or waitlist requests that are not on those days. When I am not teaching I do pick up an extra day. Thursday. I will let you know in an email if the schedule is going to begin including other days. But when you see Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday greyed out three weeks in a row it isn't because I'm busy on those days. It's because I don't work on those days.

I will be done working in the salon for the year on Saturday December 23rd and since I do have limited days that I am available this is my friendly nudge to remind you that you will want to look cute for your all your holiday parties. My 2024 Organizer

Every year I get a planner and it is so helpful. This year I made my entire planner because I need things for home + business all in one place. I also incorporated the hair + life organizer. Life is Life-ing

This year has been tough, not just on myself but for everyone. There have been many WTF 🤯😳😱 moments of things that just don't make any sense.

On October 4th we lost Harmony's grandfather who was blessed to see his 81st birthday 🥳 just before he passed. But then on October 10th Mister Growley darted out into traffic and was hit by a car, in front of her. He was a special part of our home and the salon so I'm sorry if seeing him was what made your visits extra special. He was a sweet sweet pup and everyone misses him including the other pups.

Harmony and I both have good days and not so good days. We make lots of jokes about Mister when something reminds us of him, like the noisy kids on the stairs. We are just enjoying each other's company right now, being there for each other. She has started going to the B&G club "after school" so she can be social and that gives me time for myself as well. We are processing.

Like I said it's not just us and our personal life, it has also swept through the whole salon. I feel blessed to work with people I can go through tough things with. I can cry at work and still feel safe. I can be human, I can have big feelings and for that I'm grateful.

Holiday Wine Tasting December 1 6-8pm

Let's be real we could use a little extra holiday cheer. I haven't decided if I'm going to buy the sweater in my Amazon cart for this event or if I'm coming in my Christmas jammies. I'm really leaning towards jammies though.

This event I'm sure will be extra full of laughter, because at this point that's all we've got left. This year has been a s**t storm coupled with a monsoon, a s**tsoon 🙃😂🙃. Hopefully you can make it out and share some laughs and bubbles with us.

2024

It will be here in a matter of weeks and despite all the tragedy I'm hopeful and excited. In a few days I will have a legit teenager 🤯😳😱 who is really into baking right now and I'm excited to see her leaning into that art form.

Have you done any goal setting for the new year? How about something simple like, slow down, be present or here's a big one, say no to things that make you uncomfortable. It's those things that make the difference, the stress of saying yes when you want to scream "no!" and run away is something we have all experienced. We should also all stop 🛑 and leave that habit in 2023. Saying no to one thing opens you up to being able to say yes to something else, even if that is just time to yourself.

Happy October!

Not much new going on with me. Im back in the classroom at CPTC teaching nails and skin. I feel really good, I got all my assignments and things set up for the first two weeks of the quarter and my student group is awesome!

Im still in the salon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm not working on Mondays just so that I can have two days off.

Still not using social media. So if you need me or you have a question email, as it has always been, is the best way to reach me.

It's been really beautiful out even though it's been chilly. But with the return of the rain comes the return of seasonal depression symptoms. Be sure to be checking in with your therapist or close friends and family if you aren't feeling like yourself.

Happy Fall!

I know we have a few more weeks but it's my favorite season! I enjoy the crisp mornings and warm afternoons, although it does make getting dressed interesting.

My kiddo and Mister had an epic summer in WI. She is back in school now and we are dead smack in the middle of middle school ya'll so when you see her just understand that's where we are at.

I can't say enough good things about TOL. I am grateful to have this happy medium between home school and traditional public school. If you have the time I would definitely recommend you at least look into it. We still have to supplement activities but I feel it is safer and protects our family values in a way that the traditional public school setting just cannot.

Shout out to all the teachers, whatever level I pray you have a wonderful journey this year!

FRFR I need a favor....

As much as I try to laugh it off this is a really tough time for us. Harmony is a tall 12, and a mature young lady. While we can all see she is beautiful, she is feeling like, well a middle schooler, and bless if you don't know what that means. But if you remember middle school the way most people do, then you know what I'm talking about. We all know she is tall, we can see it she knows she is tall but she is over hearing it from everyone everywhere. If you could please be mindful of your well intended complements about her height it would be greatly appreciated. (Yes I'm asking you to not mention her height to her)

Wine Tasting

Azarra is having their Fall wine tasting on Friday, September 15 from 6-8pm. I will not be attending. Fall is very busy for me and I need to stick to my schedule while the cement is drying you know?

It's free for all to attend and taste as well as a great time to network with new people in the community like our new stylist, Niiaja. She specializes in locs, braids and other natural hair styling services. She's been teaching me to do knotless braids. Oh yea she's also an instructor, so she's really knowledgeable on the "need to know" things as well.

If you are looking for a braider or loctician this would be a great opportunity to meet her and chat her up.

Back to School for ME too!

The quarter begins the last week of September and I will return to my classroom on the 27th. I will be available in the salon Friday afternoons, Saturday and Sunday mornings to mid afternoon.

As I mentioned before there are a lot of transitions that happen at this time of year for me so thank you in advance for you patience if I am slow to responding to emails or approving appointments.

Summer is Summerin'!

We're home, and I'm back in the salon.

Thank you for your orders, I'm glad you all are enjoying the ACV shampoo and conditioner on the backbar. Got your scalp feeling amazing!

It's a good time to whip out your calendars and planners if you have a young person who is headed back to school. They are going to want to get their haircuts scheduled especially if they are having senior pictures soon.

My hours are changing just a bit, I'm shortening my days on Saturday and Sunday. This change will be reflected beginning in September.

The Break was Nice

It has been really nice having this break from the salon. I was waaaay overdue. Don't forget to unplug every once in a while. You don't realize how much it helps.

I've deleted facebook and IG from my phone. I still have the accounts I'm just not interested in using it and I don't miss it. Not even a little bit.

We just had to share!

We love apple cider vinegar even though it isn't our favorite fragrance. Why do we love it on our hair and scalp? It's acidic! The pH level of ACV is great for balancing the pH of your scalp and the acidity of the ingredient helps to smooth down the cuticle. That helps to make hair shiny and retain moiture.

Well, AG Hair has developed a wonderful smelling shampoo and conditioner with it. I gave it a try on the back bar at the shampoo bowl and so far everyone seems to love it. "I really like the way my scalp feels." I have to admit that that was what I noticed first about it as well.

I have found that a lot of "dry and itchy scalp" situations are more than just dry/itchy scalp. If your scalp gets even itchier when the water hits it, you may have a bacterial/fungal infection on your scalp. That is also what the white build up could be. You scalp isn't just extra ashy for no reason. It is possible that it is an overgrowth of yeast. ACV can balance that right on out.

I'm headed out for a while

I'm headed out of town on July 30th and I won't return to the salon until AUG 10th. I'm going to get our girl and puppers from WI and taking some time off to just be home with them. Please make your appointments soon if you want to get in before the end of the month.

My regular schedule will still be Thursday-Sunday until the end of September. I will be headed out of town again at the end of September so if that is your regular haircut/color time then you may want to take a peak and get something scheduled now.

Hey Curlfriend, I'm still here

I went back to teaching this Spring and it kicked my behind...AGAIN. But I learned a lot and I'm figuring out how to make my next moves. Instagram and Facebook don't make me money, it's time consuming and frankly I'm over it. I do not have to be overwhelmed and stressed out. That is in fact, something I have been choosing because of believing in Social Media as a key part of my business. This newsletter and Google are driving my business and have been.

I say all that to say, check yourself. Are you doing things that are actually a time or energy suck giving you little to no return on the investment you give it, them?

So if you don't see me very active on the socials that's why. I may come back to them I haven't decided. I'm going to try leaning in to Google. Which BTW if you haven't left me a review I'd really appreciate it.

I hope you are well and you've been enjoying all of this beautiful sunshine. Remember that dry air make dry hair. Keeping your hair bound and properly hydrated, meaning with water not product, is going to be essential. Wearing a hat or head covering is a healthy/cute option too.

I'm currently rocking my wash and go but I can feel the air sucking the moisture from my hair so I will probably twist her down here in the next couple of days.

This is my favorite day of the quarter.

The first day of clinic. They get to see how it feels to get “paid” what they are worth.

On this day I get to measure how well I delivered instructions.

I got some valuable feedback from my superstar mangers and there were only minor hiccups in the flow.

They had to create a service menu based on the services we are learning this quarter, and a price structure based off of their real life expenses and yearly income goals.

They have “money” that they can exchange between each other for services. They earn money for participating in class discussions and Q&A.

It can be challenging to stand by your prices as a new stylist. Especially if they are higher than what some believe they should be🧐.

They often get to the register and start making up discounts. Not these ones. They need to start out knowing how to make a livable wage and being comfortable charging what they NEED to. The nail industry is horribly underpriced. That’s one of the things we talk about in class as it relates to economics and culture.

It’s so exciting to get to pour into them at the start of their journey, what it’s taken me nearly 20 years to learn.💚

😳 I had to use bleach to get these results😱 here’s why.

Ok so we started with color because she has virgin hair. Duh 🙄 who wouldn’t. 40 vol on the her ends only.

🙅🏾‍♀️Her hair was like get that 🤬 outta here.

Ok so then bleach at the bowl and finally we get to brown. Why you ask? Well there could be many reasons my top two hunches are product buildup and or compact cuticle. She had virgin hair and she had just taken braids out.

She was happy with her subtle not subtle transformation. We used to stain her grey to match her ends. That also makes the hair super shiny🤗

I’m back in the classroom!

No I don’t teach curly hair. I get to teach the final quarter which is manicuring and facial waxing.

I love getting to teach at the end because I get to help prepare them for the real deal.

They all get that I designed specifically for the way us creatives think. We talk about money, boundaries and realistic expectations. All things that givers really struggle with. 🫶🏾💚🫶🏾

😱My hair turned a bit more lavender than I would have liked so we are going to try a new formula after this round of return.

🧐Yes those are ziplock baggies…look you don’t ask questions when you’ve got a head full of foil leave me and my baggies alone.🫣

My grey turned a bit teal on the ends because of the green I put over the back so that’s why the baggies I’m keeping everything separate, also why we use foil 🤗.

Wake-up, go to sleep, pta meeting, board meeting family dinner or date night a well tied scarf is everything.

It is elegant and practical at the same time. Get more wear out of your hair with a scarf.

I have to be honest with myself I can’t have it long and keep up with coloring all of it in a timely fashion.

So I’m making a compromise with myself. I will just keep all the fun up front. But I think that’s all I need and want.

A couple of weeks ago I did a twistset and when I took it out and styled it, I knew I’d hit the jackpot. That swoop in my bangs with all that lift 😍💪🏾.

This is my go to style now, the one I’ve been waiting for.

I need to tweak the tone a bit but also I have to settle into seeing myself this way it takes a minute.

But the placement is EVERYTHING😍. This feeling is why I color my hair. I’ve grown, changed and made progress. My hair transforms with me. It’s weird but knowing exactly where to put the color to perfectly compliment and complete my look is the challenge I love. That takes time I can’t even immediately see it on myself😳

This is the importance of knowing how you WANT to look. Not your curl type or how you’re “supposed to” look.

It may take a while but at some point you look in the mirror and say “hey! I been looking for you! Where you been? Nevermind come on let’s go we got stuff to do.”

You are the greatest treasure you’ll ever find, and the wildest adventure you’ll ever have🫶🏾💚🫶🏾 Do it in color!

Im testing out a new style to do on Harmony and I want to make sure it’s legit before I sit her down.

I went to pick up some braiding hair to practice with my new mannequin from .

Did I take the mannequin with me? Of course not! But I was able to eyeball the color dead on!

I had a very productive day today. I didn’t get all the things done but that’s ok 🫶🏾.

I came home and read until my brain started to wonder then I baked cookies, and as you can see I took my time and put my soul into these cookies. I actually zoned out while hand mixing. Squishing the dough is so satisfying 🤓

Once they were in the oven I went back to my book and was able to focus a little longer. This was a nice way to decompress from work instead of mindlessly scrolling to disengage.

I feel like I found a winning combination of substitute stimuli to detox with.
