Blissman Recording Studios

I love what I do. An artists comes in, and I try to share in their vision and help them communicate their musical thoughts. It's an arduous task to always be the "5th Beatle", but it's worth it in the end. When the project is over, I usually walk away with a willingness to incorporate what I have learned when I go out and perform as a musician. Sometimes, it's about the music. Sometimes the music is a vehicle for something far greater. Some artists view their recording time as therapy or meditation. Some artists use it as healing time. It's an overwhelming challenge at times, but it always makes the world just a little bit better. I am blessed.

Since March, Blissman Studios has had 47 musicians record either as artists or for other arrists on projects ranging from rock, jazz, soul, country, folk, etc. Been fun, but crazy busy!😎

Business has been good! Sooo many fun bands and artists coming through the studio. 😎

Fun session saturday with local band Northwest Chill.

Fun recording session yesterday with local band Suspicious by Nature. They knocked out drums/bass/rhythm gtr and scratch vocals for 10 tunes in one day. Yowza! Here they are in their two natural environments. The studio and on break "assuming the position". Came naturally to them, for some reason! ;)

Nice session yesterday with Rob Witmer laying down some fine accordion work for one of my clients.

I am so tha thankful for the tremendous bounty of work in the studio this year. I have had a blast working with so many talented artists. Full CD recording of the Washington National Guard Band, A CD and DVD instuctional book by Seattle drum guru Garey Williams, creating and recording tracks for both the Miss Washington and Miss America Pageant, mixing down a CD for Seattle based The Full Circle Jazz Ensemble, and numerous projects for various artists recording everything from Rap, Jazz, Rock, Gospel, contemporary Christian Rock, etc. I am truly blessed to have these wonderful experiences!

I had a session about a month ago with a wonderful musician who played both Penney Whistle and this 1850's Concertina! It was so well in tune, it was quite spooky! Never mic'd up a Concertina before, thanks for the advice Interweb....! ;)

Awesome session tonight with Pedal Steel player Dan Tyack. He's a bona fide badass!

Wonderful recording session today with a young gentleman from the Fort Lewis band who is recording orchestral trumpet parts for one of the elite military bands in D.C. So much fun to hear the Brandenberg Concerto piccolo trumpet part being executed with such precision!

Whew! Blissman Studios is busy! So greatful to all the wonderful artists who I am currently working with. Garey Williams is working on a great instructional book/DVD, I'm mixing a rap R & B for a group from Alabama, I'm mixing a recording for local jazz ensemble Full Circle Jazz Ensemble and I'm working on several recordings for local artists!

Great session today with Garey Williams! He's recording tracks and video for his upcoming instructional book and dvd. Gonna be awesome!

Progress! Progress! Progress! Newly acquired Neumann U87 is doing well and making great music, and just ordered, the RTA Studio Desk! Next, a John Hardy M1 Mic Pre. Seriously beautiful sounding 2 channel mic pre!

Nice session today fleshing through an arrangement of "Someone Like You" from the musical Jekyll and Hyde for the new Miss Washington, Kailee Dunn. Kudos to Eugene Bien for lending his piano playing and insights. Now I get to build the rest of the track from the ground up! She'll be performing it live at the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City!

New photos from the past few weeks recording sessions. So much contrast in projects: children's CD, vocal overdubs, guitar overdub sessions. Love the variety of work, keeps me on my toes!

Fun 2 day session with Garey Williams laying down 28 drum tracks for one of my clients. Impeccable sounding drums impeccably played and captured. Gonna be fun not to have to edit the living daylights out of the tracks!

Cute session today with my daughter and three of her school buddies. They were singing children's songs for one of my clients. They sounded great! They knocked out multiple takes for 5 songs in 2 hours!

The sennheiser 421's will be here Friday! Christmas in April! Only "like" if you are an audio geek like me!

Mixing down a nice gospel r-n-b recording right noe. Fun stuff, and Sherry Songbird is an excellent singer!

Great session today with a client and Frank Seeberger on guitar. Man, it's turned out great! The client was recording a song for his dear old mum! Awww.....! :)

Fun session today with hard rock band, In-definitely. They layed down 6 basic tracks in 4 hours. Not bad!

Man, Blissman Studios was BUSY in 2013! From book narrations, to gospel artists, singer/songwriters,etc. Looking forward to what 2014 brings. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
