Prelude
Call to Worship
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was barren, no form of life. It was under a deep ocean and covered with darkness. But the Spirit of God was moving over the waters - and God spoke, saying "let there be light". And there was light.
God saw the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light "day" and the darkness he called "night". And there was evening, and there was morning - the first day.
Let us worship the Lord!

Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession: We thank you, O God, for making us unique. We thank you for the many blessings you have poured out upon us. Thank you for the miracle that makes us one of a kind and which treasures us above all things, for the love that is so great that you would come as one of us, die for us and rise again to show us the way. Help us to use the gifts you have given us wisely, to seize the opportunity to go the extra mile, to do all things out of love for you, ourselves and for our neighbors. We pray this in the name of the one born in a manger, our “Great Joy which is for all people,” Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

This is the good news which we received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved:
that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day; and that he appeared to Peter, then to the twelve and to many faithful witnesses. We believe he is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, he is our Lord and our God. Amen.

FIRST SUNDAY OF CHRISTMAS

Pianist: Jorge Olmos

Prelude

Call to Worship:
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
In many and various ways God spoke in ancient times to our ancestors through the prophets.
But in these last days, God has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed to be the heir of all things through whom he also created the world.
Light dawns for the righteous.
Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name.
Loving Father, we thank you for giving unto us your Son, Christ Jesus. We gather here today in his name.
Gracious God, bless our worship. Help us to hear again the story of Jesus’ birth and to receive from your hands the message you want us to hear.
Let us worship the Lord, our God.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Pastor, Rev. Irvin Porter
Rev. Anne-Cecile Baer Porter
Pianist: Jorge Olmos

Prelude
Advent Candle The Candle of Love (insert)

Love is like a light shining in a dark place. As we look at this candle we celebrate the love we find in Jesus Christ. Let us pray: Thank you God for the love you give us. We ask that as we wait for all your promises to come true, and for Christ to come again, that you would remain present with us. Help us today, and every day to worship you, to hear your word, and to do your will by sharing your love with each other. We ask it in the name of the one who was born in Bethlehem. Amen.

Call to Worship:
Come, let us be about our preparations for a new advent of love among us.
The deserts of life around us cannot shut out the promise of life-giving water.
Hatred, warfare, injustice and suffering, are not the last word, Peace to all people.
We see again the light God promises in the midst of our darkness.
We are feeling again the joy that comes through partnership in the gospel.
May our worship recall us to what is centered in life; to the One who gives us breath and purpose in life.
We come to embrace the new advent, to be renewed in faith, hope and love.
Let us worship the Lord!

*Opening Hymn: “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” #537
*Prayer
*Passing the Peace (Greet those near you – “The Peace of Christ be with you.”)

Call to Confession:

Prayer of Confession: God of grace, you send signs of love in people who care. But often we shut those people out. We turn away your love when we need it the most. We deny your hope within us, and we keep ourselves isolated and afraid. Visit us with your salvation, for we await you in need. Send your light that it may shine through us into a need world. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior born in Bethlehem for us. Amen.

Watch! Wait! The day of God is at hand!
Like the bud on a tree. God’s possibilities are about to bloom!

Prayer of Confession: God of light, who shines in deepest darkness, we hear you calling us out of hopelessness into hope. But it frightens us. We are afraid of taking chances; we are afraid of following your light, because it leads us into the places where you need us. We don’t want to see how people hurt. We don’t want to see your light shining in the eyes of our neighbor. Yet we know that in those places your grace shines; help us to seek your light Not just in this season of Advent. Guide us always in your way, so that we will be seen as children of your day. In the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession: God, in this time of Advent, we confess we look at you with impatience. We can’t wait for you to come and set things right. We are insecure with our world, fearful of crimes and shootings in the streets, and anxious about ourselves. Too often we refuse your guidance, but we wish you could act according to our plans. We seldom pause to consider that you are waiting for us to confess our wrongdoing sincerely and change; waiting for us to listen and respond with a burning passion to your truth, your justice and your mercy. Provide us with humble hearts and willing spirits to receive you as you come to us through all the experiences of our lives. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen.

Emmanuel God With Us

Go tell it on the mountain, The One that we’ve been waiting for.
The king of our salvation, Born on this day our Savior Christ the Lord.
Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and everywhere. That we can be forgiven. The weight of all our sin he came to bear.

Emmanuel God with us. Emmanuel King Jesus. The Savior of the world is born.
Emmanuel God with us. Emmanuel King Jesus. The Savior of the world is born.

Go tell it on the mountain, Humbly in a manger lay.
Mercy sent from heaven, Angels filled the sky with highest praise.
Emmanuel God with us. Emmanuel King Jesus. The Savior of the world is born.
Emmanuel God with us. Emmanuel King Jesus. The Savior of the world is born.

Go tell it on the mountain. This baby born of virgin birth.
The Ruler of all nations. The glory of our God has come to earth.
Emmanuel God with us. Emmanuel King Jesus. The Savior of the world is born.

Emmanuel God with us
Emmanuel King Jesus

We believe that God has come to us; that God brought us into being, that this God gave us breath and purpose, that we have been blessed to be a blessing to others, that we have fallen short of this commandment, but that God has nevertheless loved us despite our brokenness.
We believe that God is coming to us; that God is not happy to leave us alone, that this God will come to us as a particular human being, that God will be made known to us in flesh and bone like ours, that Mary will soon give birth and Joseph will soon clap his hands in joy, that Jesus Christ will be born and our salvation made complete.
We believe that God will come to us; that God will have the final word and that Word will be good, that this God will give us the presence of the Spirit to continue our work, that we are called to be disciples to all the corners of the earth, that the day is coming when tears and pain will be no more, and we shall gather with Him to sing forever “Alleluia!” Amen.

And also with you.
This is the day of the Lord
Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
All things have been created through Jesus and for him
Jesus is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Jesus is the head of the body, the church;
God is pleased to have all his abundance abide in Jesus
Let the world rejoice, Christ, The King of Creation has come to make a difference
in our lives.
ALL Let us worship the Lord!

*Prayer
*Passing the Peace (Greet those near you – “The Peace of Christ be with you.”)

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession: Lord, we pray that you would nurture in our hearts and minds, our plans and actions, our hopes and prayers, a greater love for all people. Break the silence of prejudice, the isolation of ignorance, the false sense of security in earthly fortresses, and erase the fear that prevents dialogue. We praise you, Lord, known to us in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We pray for your blessing that we may be a blessing to others. We pray Jesus to be with us, as he promised to be, whenever we gather in his name. We pray for the Spirit to make our worship holy, joyful, and true. Help us to come home to your love, by becoming one family, in your church and in the world. Forgive our wrongdoing as we move into the season of Advent – awaiting the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ the King of peace, in whose name we now pray. Amen.
