The 2016 presidential election, the 2023 Southern Baptist decision, and current Oscar nominations revealed where the majority views on female leadership are still at. What we say matters.

This time last year I was feeling wiped in so many ways. We were being hit with another pandemic wave and crime was rising in our area. Our business was being tagged with threatening graffiti and hostile walk-ins. The cops frequented our district and we had to lock our doors. Before the pandemic, I envisioned a mural on our building. The idea got put on the back burner for obvious reasons. As I grieved what was happening in my home city, I was reminded that there is always light above the darkness. Public art is a small way to prevent and reduce crime. I scribbled a drawing and handed it off to an artist. I love collaborating. Unfortunately, we may not see this on the building, but this is a redemption piece that I am still so proud to share. If anything, I made a new friend and my hope was reignited. This is where I am rooted and I see beauty to care for.

Our Story

A decade ago, a friendship of 2 aspiring salon owners was forged in faith and we began dreaming of a place to create together with a team. We caught wind of spaces available on Pac Ave that needed a lot of love and a turn key location on 6th Ave. Neither place felt right in our spirits. We were hoping for a place on Proctor but there was nothing available. We started negotiations on a spot in Old Town, going back and forth while I was pregnant with my second child. As my due date approached, I was about to give up until after I had my baby. Then I was just getting my morning coffee on Proctor when a “For Lease” sign went up across the street. I had prayed for this exact salon space and knew it was meant to be. I called my friend and we made an offer. We did not have the best offer, but were ready to go. The keys were entrusted to us while I was still in the hospital the day after giving birth. The landlords and our stylist friends took a chance on us first time business owners, and after 8 years and a pandemic, we are still going strong. We were one of the first salons in the area to offer online scheduling and adult beverages to enjoy. It’s an honor to serve with local stylists and inspire people to start and grow their businesses. Although I don’t recommend opening a salon on a 3 month maternity leave, it shows that women can do the seemingly impossible with each other. This place is sacred and the people who frequent are divine appointments. It brings such joy to care for the beauty of our community. IT’S ALL GRACE. I am beyond grateful for our generous, talented team, clients, and all who have supported us and our neighbors in need. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being on this refining journey. You truly are beautiful.

Take that next step, it will not be wasted. It’s preparing, humbling, and strengthening you. The path will not be straight, smooth, or predictable. On the other side of the the frustration, angst, and waiting is beauty, radiant beauty.
