SIGNIFICANT OTHER at Tacoma Little Theatre
Tacoma Little Theatre presents the bittersweet comedy, Significant Other, by Joshua Harmon as part of its 104th season. This hilarious and heart wrenching exploration of friendship and love will be directed by Chris Serface. Jordan Berman would love to be in love, but that’s easier said than done. So until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close girlfriends. But as singles’ nights turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan discovers that the only thing harder than finding love is supporting the loved ones around you when they do. But, as they get married one by one, he is left to wonder why life won’t give him the same fairytale ending. Significant Other is an unorthodox romantic comedy that celebrates the highs and lows of twenty- something urban life, wedding after wedding after wedding. Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of Significant Other features Nick Fitzgerald as Jordan, Corissa DeVerse as Laura, Amanda McCarther as Vanessa, Tryphaena Singleton as Kiki, Sharry O’Hare as Helene, Rodman Bolek as Will/Conrad/Tony, and Paul Richter as Zach/Evan/Roger. Significant Other will run Friday, April 21, through Sunday, May 7, 2023, for a total of 10 performances. Friday and Saturday showings are at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. The performance on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 2:00pm will be an ASL interpreted performance. Tickets are $27.00 (Adults), $25.00 (Seniors 60+/Students/Military), and $20.00 (Children 12 and under). Po Boy Tango at Tacoma Little Theatre
For its first show of 2023, Tacoma Little Theatre presents Po Boy Tango, by Kenneth Lin. This celebration of the human spirit and the joy of cooking will be directed by David Hsieh. Po Boy Tango tells the story of Richie Po, a Taiwanese immigrant who turns to his estranged friend Gloria, an African-American Soul Food Chef, to help him recreate his mother’s ‘Great Banquet’. Despite the challenges of shark fin soup, duck po boy sandwiches, and underlying cultural tensions, they find common ground through their shared humor and the blending of traditional Chinese cuisine and African-American soul food. Helped by lessons from Po Mama’s television cooking show, the two discover a deeper understanding of food, culture, and the nature of friendship. Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of Po Boy Tango features Sam Lai as Richie Po, Michelle Blackmon as Gloria B., and Aya Hashiguchi as Po Mama. Po Boy Tango will run Friday, January 20, through Sunday, February 5, 2023, for a total of 10 performances. Friday and Saturday showings are at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Steel Magnolias at Tacoma Little Theatre
Tacoma Little Theatre begins its 104th Season with the return of one of our most requested titles, Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias. This dynamic new envisioning of the show will be directed by Deanna Martinez. Truvy’s salon is Chinquapin, Louisiana’s go-to place for a beauty fix with a hearty side of gossip. Along with her overeager assistant Annelle, Truvy pampers her small-town clients with hairdos, manicures, and all kinds of unsolicited advice. Anybody who’s anybody is a regular: There’s the doting M’Lynn and her soon-to-be-married daughter Shelby; the moody Ouiser; and the well-to-do widow Clairee. Through witty banter and wisecracks, this hodgepodge group of women form friendships as strong as steel, which they are forced to lean on when tragedy strikes. Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of Steel Magnolias features Janice Williams as Truvy, Samantha Jane Lobberegt as Annelle, Laurice Roberts as Clairee, Aliyah Shines as Shelby, Shelleigh-Mairi Ferguson as M’Lynn, and Stephanie Leeper as Ouiser. Steel Magnolias will run Friday, September 16, through Sunday, September 25, 2022. Friday and Saturday showings are at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. The performance on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 2:00pm will be an ASL interpreted performance. Silent Sky at Tacoma Little Theatre
Tacoma Little Theatre is excited to welcome Silent Sky to its stage after having been postponed earlier in the season. Silent Sky is written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by pug Bujeaud. This true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth. Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of Silent Sky features Jessica Robins as Henrietta Leavitt, Jillian Faulk as Margaret Leavitt, Mason Quinn as Peter Shaw, Rachel Permann as Annie Cannon, and Deya Ozburn as Williamina Fleming. Silent Sky will run Friday, July 8, through Sunday, July 24, 2022. Friday and Saturday showings are at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Silent Sky is recommended for ages 12 and up. There will be an ASL interpreted performance on Sunday, July 24 at 2:00pm. Tickets are $27.00 (Adults), $25.00 (Seniors 60+/Students/Military), and $20.00 (Children 12 and under). Tickets may be purchased online at www.tacomalittletheatre.com, or by calling our Box Office at (253) 272-2281. Tacoma Little Theatre presents as part of its 103rd Season, The Luck of the Irish, by Kirsten Greenidge, and directed by Lydia K. Valentine, Tacoma’s Poet Laureate. In the words of playwright Kirsten Greenidge, The Luck of the Irish is “...a glass prism: all slants and angles surrounding… different configurations of characters grappling with the dreams and hopes and choices that were made with all the greatest intentions half a century earlier.” It explores the American experience with its multifaceted and layered complexities, both past and present. The Taylors, a wealthy Black American couple, plan to buy a home in an all White neighborhood in 1950s Boston, and—to avoid being the target of arson again—they pay the Donovans, a struggling Irish American couple, to "ghost-buy" a house on their behalf. Fifty years later, the Donovans confront the Taylor heirs in an effort to get “their” house back. Moving across two eras, The Luck of the Irish considers the immunity endowed by social privilege of class, race, or gender; the pitfalls of assumed entitlement; and the universal longing for home. Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of The Luck of the Irish features Laurice Roberts as Lucy Taylor, Mark Peterson as Rex Taylor, Janice Williams as Hannah Davis, Joshua Davis as Rich Davis, Amy Van Mechelen as Nessa Charles, Jason Sharp as Joe Donovan, Jill Heinecke as Patty Ann Donovan, Joseph Grant as Mr. Donovan, Debbie Birkey as Mrs. Donovan, and Micah Williams as Miles. The Luck of the Irish will run Friday, June 3, 2022, through Sunday, June 19, 2022. Friday and Saturday showings are at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm.
