If you have ever wondered what a 10 minute Petite session might look like for your family this holiday season, this is a post you might want to take a look at!
Have you ever wondered if a 10-minute Petite session will be enough time for your family this post is for you. After so many years of working with families, I feel very comfortable jumping in and getting everyone to settle into having their best experience possible. In my mind, 10 minutes can be so great for younger kids who might be a little apprehensive about working with a new person or in a new space. Not only that, experience tells me that young kids can be the most cooperative within that small window of time so we can get the shots quickly and they now have had a positive experience working with a photographer - everyone walks away relieved that they can check this off the holiday list!

Occasionally, sessions in the Pacific Northwest can be affected by fog or smoke, causing some client concerns about the impact on their photography. Despite potential weather challenges, I love to embrace the unique, soft, diffused look created by the conditions, especially when the sun illuminates clients in a dreamy way above low clouds. In the case of the Stevens family's Thanksgiving session, they braved the cold weather, resulting in a picturesque and memorable experience along the Tacoma Waterfront.

It doesn’t happen too often, but sometimes a session will be fogged in (or, if in August, smoked in). Clients can get a little worried about how the fog will impact their session so I wanted to show what a session might look like if our Pacific Northwest decides to be a little wild with the weather. Personally I don’t mind photographing clients in the fog, it offers a unique softer diffused look for a session. Often the sun will be sitting right above the low clouds and can illuminate the clients in a glowy dreamy way. And, if you know any photographers, we are always up to explore some soft, dreamy, diffused light!

When I get an inquiry from a client who wants photos with their extended family I am there in a heartbeat. In my world, the more the merrier when it comes to making sure these important relationships are remembered for as long as they can be. One day someone will move away, and there might be a sudden loss or a change of family dynamics but that image of THIS season of the family will be documented to remember.

My extended family is big. And we are all local. And we all get along, like really, really, well. I grew up with cousins who were more like sisters and we spent almost every weekend at each other's houses. As we’ve gotten older we’ve wept and mourned members lost too soon. And we’ve celebrated weddings and babies and changes of jobs together with every ounce of joy that we could. Camping trips and cookouts and family Christmas…we did it all, and we did it well. So when I get an inquiry from a client who wants photos with their extended family I am there in a heartbeat.
