• What exactly is going on with Burger Seoul?
If you’ve lived or visited Tacoma between mid-2015 and today, you likely recognize Young La. Hopefully you’ve also indulged in one or many of the Korean-inspired creations at his popular food truck, where fans often joined in outdoor karaoke sessions as they awaited a Fire Seoul (slide 2) or Bulgogiger with Fire Fries.
Until recently, the truck was parked permanently outside a convenience store at 19th Street and Prospect Avenue in Central Tacoma. The custom awning La built around to shield customers from the PNW rain now sits empty (slide 3).
So, what gives?
Astute observers might have noticed the truck in a new location: 1701 Division Avenue, where it meets 6th Ave. Here, La is in the midst of building out an old check-cashing spot that has long been vacant into a brick-and-mortar Burger Seoul.
It’s an expensive endeavor, complicated by the difficult circumstances that led the city and the health department to shut down his ability to operate at 19th Street Grocery & Deli. He never intended to close the truck before the new restaurant opened.
A GoFundMe seeks support to bring the Burger Seoul dream to the 6th Ave neighborhood. And the truck? La is planning to serve a Korean snack menu from the familiar window.

Thankfully, came by this week. This interview occurred during a crucial time, as you all know, during the fundraising(link in bio). Personally, it’s a very special moment, and I did a quick interview. If you’d like to check it out, it’s published by from “THE NEW TRIBUNE” . What an honor!!!

First and foremost,
Thank you to all the donors. I truly didn’t expect your unbelievable support. I will always remember each and every one of you until I die. I genuinely appreciate you. I won’t give up and will do my best to finish building and reopen soon.
Much love,
Young and the Burger Seoul team
Dear our customers and followers,
As you know, this fundraiser is going on now, and I’m reaching out to ask for a significant favor to secure the new equipment required to complete our lineup. We’re just a little ways off from getting all the kitchen equipment and the retail appliances. Let me explain why.
Some of you already knew, we’re planning to reopen at 1701 Division Ave., and everything is almost ready. Even though we calculated all the construction costs, the price was different at the end, and we unexpectedly spent more on materials that we hadn’t thought about with original quotes for almost everything, which costs 1.5 times more than we had already expected and paid…
Then this happened: our food cart has been closed for 4 months and hasn’t generated any revenue since then… we didn’t expect that to happen. I have more explanations and details in the fundraising link. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to reopen on the 19th as a whole picture while working on building the new brick and mortar, as you all know. That’s why we’re closed on the 19th, as I mentioned in the last post before. So I met Brandon, who is a great friend of mine and of our business, and told him about the situation for the first time in February. So Brandon, the video director, and I filmed this video a few days after the meeting, and I didn’t want to do it because sometimes you just don’t want to ask for help because I still thought that we could barely get it done by ourselves by the end of April, but now I know for sure, we can’t.
We’re definitely at a corner. And spring is almost here. We won’t be able to finish and see you without your help. Hopefully, I want to see you guys again. If you’re able to offer any support, no matter how small, it would greatly aid us in reopening our business in our new brick and mortar location. We’re genuinely stoked to be part of this amazing community once again…
This fundraiser will go to cover the cost of reopening, and you can check for more details there.
Thank you so much for your support and love,
Young
