Peaks & Pints hosts Alesong Brewing and Blending co-owner Matt Van Wyk for a two-hour Pop-Up Party at 4 p.m. today.

We suggest pairing our Wednesday Sandwich Special with Alesong’s Silver Lining Farmhouse Ale, a juicy farmhouse ale made an 18-month-old, Brett-fermented saison from their cellar and blended them with younger, foeder-matured beer that was brewed with copious amounts of El Dorado hop extract. The saison pairs well with the main flavor of the special — Garlic Herb Mayo — with Turkey, Roasted Red Peppers, Provolone, Onion, Tomato, Balsamic, and Arugula on Sourdough. The Peaks & Pints Tuesday Chicken Salad Sandwich Special leads with Caesar Dressing, Pesto and Parmesan flavors followed by Bacon, Tomato, and Spinach on sourdough.

We suggest pairing the special with a Helles. “Helles" in German means “light”, so essentially this is the German equivalent to light beer, but with flavor. Gold Dot Beer in McMinnville, Oregon, brews their flagship Helles Lager adds flavor with a single varietal German pale barley, carefully mashed to for its full expression and coupled with a blend of our favorite low-alpha hops from the Hallertau region, then extensively cold-conditioned for roundness and maturity.

Tuesday’s soup is Chicken Poblano.

Grab the Helles or other beers and ciders from the Peaks and Pints 850+ cooler. Cheers!

Happy Arnold of Soissons Day

Let’s meet Arnold of Soissons, the patron saint of hop-pickers. He received the nametag because he preached in the hop-growing region of Brabant, in what is now Belgium. Hops became more widespread when a Belgian princess married a Kentish prince and the dowry included land across from the Affligem brewery. Belgians reportedly sent the first hops to England for use in making beer. Anyhoo, Arnold of Soissons pulled his beer proliferation number after a monastery roof collapsed in Flanders, destroying the monks’ supply of beer. With only a few sad barrels remaining, Arnold asked God to lend a hand. The barrels multiplied, the monks and townsfolk rejoiced, and Arnold was popularly canonized on the spot.

Arnold of Soissons is often confused with Saint Arnold of Metz and the same miracles, therefore, St. Arnold’s Fest Day, July 18, is associated with both depending on the source.

Peaks & Pints carries a large selection of Belgian beer. Stop by and stock up for your St. Arnold's feast tonight.
