It was a great year for John and me, the new duo Double Play. We are very grateful to so many people who helped us during 2023, from venue owners and staff, to friends who consistently supported us by attending our events, to generous local musicians who offered their advice or loaned us their equipment (that’s you Andy L), to many others around Tallahassee who just love live music.
We’ll be back out on the scene playing again before you know it, and we look forward to seeing you all then.

Come see Double Play make its first appearance at the iconic Salty Dawg Deli and Pub this Friday night (12/8/23) from 6:30-9:30pm. Classic tunes, great food, and cold beer add up to a fun evening!! 🎶🍻 🥪 The Salty Dawg is an indoor music venue, so we’ll all stay dry and warm regardless of the weather.

Due to expected rain, Double Play will appear INDOORS tonight (12/1) at the Hub at Feather Oaks from 5:30-8:30. Come out and join us.

OK. There’s just about ZERO CHANCE that rains expected throughout this afternoon will allow us to set up to play music outside, or allow you to fully enjoy the beautiful outdoor space at The Hub at Feather Oaks (6500 Miccosukee road).

So, let’s move on to PLAN B: a fun, laid back afternoon of listening to classic rock, blues, and country tunes played live by Double Play, drinking a few outstanding craft beers with your friends, munching on tasty BBQ, and watching some exciting pro football games on the big screen TVs around the bar.

Hope you’ll join John and me, and all the nice folks at the Hub at Feather Oaks this afternoon. The Hub will be open today from 12-6, and the live music will happen between 2 and 5.

Can’t make it Sunday—no worries. Double Play will be back at the Hub on Friday 12/1 (5:30-8:30), at the Salty Dawg Pub and Deli on Friday 12/8 (6:30-9:30), at the Red Shed on Friday 12/15 (6-9), and finally at the Hub again on Friday 12/22 (5:30-8:30)!

We’re looking forward to a busy 4 weeks of music at these 3 great local venues, to seeing many old friends, and to making new ones along the way!

Great night at the Hub at Feather Oaks! It’s a beautiful place to chill out and listen to music. John and I had to play inside last night because of the heat, but we hope to get out on the Hub’s gorgeous outside stage in the fall or spring.

Thanks to everyone who came out to listen, to Darvon of the 88 Crepes food truck for providing some good food, and to The Hub at Feather Oaks staff and owners for being such gracious hosts!

We’re playing today in the Tallahassee Beer Festival VIP Room from 3:30-5 (Civic Center), and then outdoors at Hurricane Grill next Thursday (8/31) from 7-10! Busy in September too, so stay tuned for my next update. 🎶🎤🎸🍻

Our show on Friday 8/25 at The Hub at Feather Oaks will take place INDOORS so you can all listen to the music in AIR CONDITIONED COMFORT! 5:30-8:30.

After closely monitoring several days of grim weather forecasts for Saturday afternoon, it now appears that rain is unlikely! 😎

So plan to spend your Saturday afternoon at Fish Camp on beautiful Lake Iamonia where John and I (Double Play) will be playing our eclectic mix of classic tunes from 1-4pm. As a bonus, Josh Roach and Barry Kaye will follow us with more great music from 5pm until well after sundown. We hope to have many friends out there to support us during our maiden Fish Camp musical voyage! 🎶🍻🍷🎉🐟

FYI, Fish Camp (12062 Waterfront Drive) offers a wide selection of reasonably priced appetizers, seafood, sandwiches, burgers, beer and wine. Join the fun if you can!

I’ll be taking May off from playing, in large part due to travel plans. But I’ll be back at in earnest in June with music events going on three weekends in a row. Folks, it’s going to be a great weekend for music and literature lovers for miles around!! The Annual Word of South Festival happens this weekend at Tallahassee’s beautiful Cascades Park. Dozens of wonderful local, regional, and nationally known musicians, songwriters, authors, poets, and journalists of varied genres and styles will be appearing all day Saturday and Sunday at different stage venues scattered around Cascades Park. Everything will be open and free to everyone on Saturday and Sunday, AND you may still be able to purchase tickets to attend tonight’s amphitheater concert featuring country superstar Jamey Johnson. Just search Word of South on the web to get more festival details.
I look forward to this amazing, unique festival every April and it just gets better every year. Plus this year, unlike the last few years, we will have close to perfect weather all weekend (no rain to drive the performers indoors or make it a pain to walk around the park to sample more offerings at the various venues while getting some exercise and SUN).
I hope to see many friends at the festival this weekend!

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!! Despite an ominous weather forecast and dark skies from the outset, quite a few brave souls came out to the Red Shed last night for dinner and some music. The expected rain did start falling on the Shed after the first set, but the overhanging roof kept everyone dry and I managed to play three full sets. Thanks to all who stopped by!!!
