Next month, Citrus Connection will start its micro-transit Squeeze shuttle service in Bartow — the third city in Polk County to offer the micro-transit option for visitors.
“Bartow sees thousands of commuters entering the city daily for government and private sector jobs,” a City of Bartow newsletter said on Tuesday. “The Squeeze will provide fast, fun and free shuttle service through the downtown and historic areas, reducing traffic and parking concerns.”
The eight-passenger golf cart service will be free to riders and is set for its debut in Bartow on Aug. 5, the newsletter said. The service will run from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The service is sponsored by Bartow’s Community Redevelopment Agency. There is no cost to riders of the Squeeze shuttle.

The Winter Garden City Commission, at its Thursday, June 27, meeting, approved a resolution officially dedicating the city-owned park at 1203 E. Plant St. as the Charlie Mae Wilder Park, named after 91-year-old community advocate Charlie Mae Wilder.
Wilder has lived in the east Winter Garden community since 1976. She is one of the neighborhood’s biggest advocates, and she has memberships in multiple organizations and boards designed to promote and improve the community.
“The resolution expresses a tribute to honor a remarkable resident of Winter Garden with a steadfast, life-long track record of public service and community development,” Economic Development Director Marc Hutchinson said. “Ms. Charlie Mae Wilder has served, and continues to serve, many organizations in various capacities in both Winter Garden and Central Florida, including as a former Winter Garden commissioner and is a current board member of the Winter Garden CRA. She is a respected pillar with a unifying voice for both the Historic East Winter Garden Neighborhood and the entire Winter Garden community.”

A $213,000 grant from the Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency - CRA was given to the restaurant--and the renovation took longer than expected.

Despite finding petroleum tanks, shock absorbers and a toxic chemical while clearing land for its new four-story public garage, Naples city officials still expect the $16 million structure will open early next year.
Structural footings and stem walls are complete, and work is proceeding on the underground stormwater retention vault at the city’s third public garage on the south side of First Avenue South and 12th Street South in the city’s Design District.
“Every time we dig a hole, we find a buried treasure, but there’s nothing to shut us down yet,” city Construction Project Manager Brad Hefner said to the City of Naples, Community Redevelopment Agency during a quarterly update June 6. “… We got a 30-yard dumpster and we’re filling a lot of them.”

A new model to build affordable housing got the green light from the Pensacola City Council on Monday afternoon.
The City of Pensacola City Council, meeting as the City of Pensacola’s Community Redevelopment Agency - CRA board, unanimously approved donating three properties to the Northwest Florida Community Land Trust in a 5-0 vote.
Under the agreement, the Home Builders Association of West Florida will build two new homes and rehabilitate a third that will be sold as affordable homes to individuals making 120% or less than the area median income. The homes can only be resold in the future to individuals at a price that is affordable for that same level of income.

Downtown Orlando will see the arrival of a new electric shuttle service this fall, as part of an effort by city officials to increase visitation and expand transportation options in the downtown core.
The new program, dubbed Ride DTO, will be an on-demand shuttle service that will essentially function as a publicly subsidized Uber service. An agreement approved by city leaders Monday with Circuit Transit, an eco-friendly micro transit company, will cover the cost of operating five mini-shuttles downtown, including one that is ADA-complaint.
The electric shuttles will offer exclusive rides suitable for small parties, available for pick-up and drop-off within the downtown Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) through a mobile application. By “exclusive,” they mean you can expect rides to service your party only, not a pool situation with other individuals or parties that request a ride while you’re en route to your destination.
