Heritage Committee Spotlight

Meet David Wilson - A 23-year-old blacksmith who arrived in Tallahassee in 1827 and was almost immediately elected the first Sunday School Superintendent of First Presbyterian. Ordained as an elder in 1833, he served the church in many different capacities for over 60 years. David Wilson is especially remembered as the donor of our sanctuary’s bell which we still ring today.

This past Saturday evening, First Presbyterian was delighted to host the premier performances of the Candlelight Concert by Fever Up, featuring music by Vivaldi (early show) and Taylor Swift (late show). Sold-out crowds gave thunderous applause for the string quartet, and our historic space looked gorgeously enchanting with 2,000 flameless candles. Candlelight will return on October 12th with two shows featuring a tribute to Cold Play and an arrangement of Halloween classics! Full-time pastor - The Presbyterian Outlook First Presbyterian – Tallahassee is hiring.

Presbyterian Women met today to launch this year's study. We also gathered school supplies for First Presbyterian Preschool, Inc.

Today's sanctuary flowers celebrate the importance of Presbyterian Women in the life of the church and the foresight of Gar Braun, who established the Mary Jane Braun fund in honor of his wife and in support of PW.

So much to be thankful for this morning! We prayed for our students and teachers, kicked off a new year of Sunday school, and heard from the youth who attended the Montreat Youth Conference. The sanctuary flowers were in honor of Charlie Witmer.

The church will be closed tomorrow, August 5th, due to the expected harsh weather from Tropical Storm Debby. Stay Safe!

Today we had the privilege and joy of participating in the ordination and installation of Rev. Glenn Hodges. Rev. Hodges is serving as our Designated Pastor. It was a day of music, reflection, and fellowship!

Our Hymn Sing Worship Service is this Sunday at 11 AM. Thanks to those who voted for their favorite hymns. We hope to see you all there! 🎼

Please join us in offering prayers and best wishes for a fun, meaningful, and safe journey for our youth and chaperones who are headed to the Montreat Youth Conference in the early morning on Sunday, July 28th. We can’t wait to hear all about their adventures when they return.
