****IMPORTANT AUTOMATED MESSAGE FROM TWIN LAKES MH/RV PARK:****

Dear Twin Lakes MH/RV Park Residents: As you may know, a Tropical Storm is currently taking a potential path to the Big Bend/coast as sometime Sunday Night or Monday Morning. This storm could also develop into something more intense as there is also a Hurricane watch in effect along the Gulf Coast.

Florida Governor has already declared a state of emergency for our area encouraging residents and local governments to make preparations ahead of time as the storm moves toward the state. Also, there may be some mandatory and voluntary evacuations being announced across the area as the storm approaches.

Ahead of the forecasts, we strongly encourage you to START EARLY and prepare as best as possible for this by doing the following:

1: Any items not secured in your lot, such as grills, lawn furniture, potted plants, should either be taken into sheds, placed under your home or brought inside to prevent unsecured items from blowing away, causing additional damage.

2: Any "temporary" type structures you may have, such as awnings, canopies, etc should either be taken down or secured as much as possible.

3. Turn your refrigerators to their highest settings now and only open them as necessary. If there's a power outage, your refrigerator will stay colder longer. You can also fill bottles with water and place them in your freezer now. Then, if the power goes out, you can transfer the frozen bottles to your refrigerator to help keep your fresh food cold longer.

4: Please be advised that in the event of a power failure, the park's well system may not be operational for a period of time. Therefore, you are encouraged to begin filling jugs with water for drinking, filling buckets for the flushing of toilets and filling sinks and bathtubs for washing. We will be utilizing auxiliary power to restore the well system if possible. Also, If auxiliary power is available, a temporary emergency water source may also be provided near the playground.

If the park's water service is disrupted, once restored, be sure to run your outside faucet before allowing the water to flow into your home. This will prevent any possible line sediment from entering your home's water lines.

Also, even if the electricity is out, be sure to turn off the breaker to your water heater to avoid burning out your heating elements in the event the water level in your water heater falls below an operational level.

5: Park vehicles in areas where there are no overhead branches. If you like, there are open fields in the rear of the park next to the owners home by the playground where residents may park their vehicles to protect them from falling trees. Or, there are open areas near the park well and dumpster area for residents of Marcys Way and Marcys Lane for parking vehicles. This also applies to our RV residents. If you feel more comfortable relocating your unit to a safer location, the open parking areas are available to you as well.

6: If you haven't done so already, begin preparing your emergency kit. For details on building your disaster kit, you can check out ready.gov

7: Most important, follow any instructions and orders given by Emergency Officials. This includes any evacuation orders that may be issued. Remember.....Things can be repaired or replaced, people cannot!

8: The parks amenities: Laundry, dog park, playground and lake areas will be closed and off limits to all tenants and guests upon being notified that the storm is approaching and will not open until things are safe.

Please be advised that if a mandatory evacuation would take place, there will be no park management available for any assistance or park maintenance, clean up or repairs/restoration of services until an "all clear" to return would be issued.

Further, park management WILL NOT be available for any assistance or maintenance needs during a storm. We will wait until the storm has passed and begin assessing needs and provide services AFTER it is safe to be outside.

City Crews Responding to Extensive Damage Following Severe Weather

An intense weather system with winds reported between 80-100 mph moved through Tallahassee this morning, May 10, leaving behind a trail of destruction. The National Weather Service is assessing paths of three possible tornadoes.

City crews continue working to clear roads of fallen trees, broken branches and other debris. Additional right-of-way clearing crews have been called in to assist.

Assessment of the electric grid shows severe damage to transmission lines, impacting 11 substations. Prolonged outages are anticipated as the grid is rebuilt and repaired. Crews are actively working. Mutual aid crews from 10 utilities, including from Alabama and Louisiana, are arriving to assist with restoration efforts. Additional calls for mutual aid have been requested from in-state and regional utilities. Damage assessment crews are taking an inventory of the damage, including broken pole counts. Early estimates indicate more than 100 poles are broken. Crews will work around the clock until service is restored. More than half of the City’s electric customers are without service due to impacts, totaling over 80,000 power outages.

Solid waste collection was suspended for today, May 10, and is anticipated to resume tomorrow, Saturday, May 11.

All youth and adult sports/activities through the City’s Parks and Recreation scheduled for Friday, May 10, are canceled. Wade Wehunt Pool and Jake Gaither Golf Course are closed for the day. Hilaman Golf Course is closed until further notice.

All StarMetro routes are impacted by storm related road blockages. Individual routes will resume service as roads are declared safe.

To report service issues, please use the City’s free DigiTally app or call 850-891-4968. Call wait times are longer than usual.

Updates on storm response are also available at Talgov.com/Outage and by following on social media.

****IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM TWIN LAKES MH/RV PARK:****

Dear Twin Lakes MH/RV Park Residents: As you may know, a major storm came through the park this morning, knocking down trees and several very large limbs. From what we can tell, there was one large branch on a power line that we were able to remove and we did not notice any damage to any homes.

However, this mornings storms have knocked out the power throughout the park. This includes the power that operates the parks well system. As a result, there is no water available at this time.

I have contacted the city of Tallahassee Utilities and they have indicated that it may take as long as 24 hours or more to restore power to this area.

In the meantime, If you are in need of fresh water for drinking, cooking, etc, there is a safe water spigot located in the Park Playground. It is marked by an orange cone and red flags.

Please feel free to fill containers for your water use until the parks water system is restored.

Once the water is restored, be sure to run your outside faucet before allowing the water to flow into your home. His will prevent any possible line sediment from entering your home's water lines.
