Are you feeling uncomfortable or in pain after a long day at your desk? ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

The biggest issue with sitting at a desk all day is ๐™‡๐˜ผ๐˜พ๐™† ๐™Š๐™ ๐™ˆ๐™Š๐™‘๐™€๐™ˆ๐™€๐™‰๐™!! ๐Ÿšถ

A favorite phrase of mine: โ€œ๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ!โ€ That means that you should avoid being in one position for too long โ€” change positions and get some โ€œmovement snacksโ€ in your life!

While movement is going to be your biggest friend when it comes to pains from sitting all day, making a few adjustments to your desk setup can also help reduce discomfort. ๐Ÿ’ป

Here are some tips for improving your desk ergonomics:

1๏ธโƒฃ Adjust your chair height so that your feet are flat on the floor, and your knees are level with or slightly below your hips.

2๏ธโƒฃ Position your monitor so that the top of the screen is at or slightly below eye level.

3๏ธโƒฃ Keep your keyboard and mouse close to your body and at a comfortable height. (Shoulders should be relaxed, elbows bent around 90 degrees, and wrists in a neutral position.)

4๏ธโƒฃ Sit with your back against the chair and use a lumbar support cushion if necessary. (A rolled up towel can work well for this.)

5๏ธโƒฃ Take frequent breaks! (Include โ€œmovement snacksโ€ throughout your day!)

Coming back from injury can be a challenging and frustrating process, but it's important to remember that ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐š๐๐ฒ wins the race. ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ‡

It's tempting to want to push yourself hard and make up for lost time, but ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ and give your body the time it needs to heal properly.

So ๐ญ๐š๐ค๐ž ๐ข๐ญ ๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐๐š๐ฒ ๐š๐ญ ๐š ๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ž (focus on the journey rather than the destination), ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ง ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐›๐จ๐๐ฒ, and ๐›๐ž ๐ฉ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ฒ๐ž๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ญ.

REMEMBER: Recovery is not linear!

When recovering from pain or injury, it can sometimes feel like you are taking 2 steps back every time you take 1 step forward.

Donโ€™t be afraid of flare ups.

โ€œSetbacksโ€ are normal. And while you may have had a small setback, you are likely better now than where you were when you started!

Just keep chugging along. Focus on function over painโ€“look at what you can do.

There are many things you canโ€™t control when recovering from pain or injury. This can be very frustrating!

Here are 4 things you ๐™˜๐™–๐™ฃ control!

1. Yแดแดœส€ แด€แด›แด›ษชแด›แดœแด…แด‡ โžก๏ธ You can control your response to challenges and your thoughts (negative to positive). Keep the big picture in mindโ€“focus on progress not perfection.

2. Yแดแดœส€ ษขส€แด€แด›ษชแด›แดœแด…แด‡ โžก๏ธ We all have things to be grateful for even when problems or challenges arise. Focus on what you are grateful forโ€“you can still find ways to enjoy life even when things may not be going your way.

3. Yแดแดœส€ แด€แด„แด›ษชแดษดs โžก๏ธ Are you being an active participant in your recovery? You can control whether you are following recommendations you have been given for recovery (i.e., exercises, lifestyle changes, etc.).

4. Yแดแดœส€ แด‡า“า“แดส€แด› โžก๏ธ Your actions are half the battleโ€“you can also control the amount of effort you put into following recommendations you have been given for recovery.

Anyone in the Tampa area interested or know anyone who might be interested? I have been volunteering with Milestones Running Club since earlier this year. It is a great program for kidsโ€”and fun to be a part of as a coach!

Milestones Running Club is seeking NOW an Assistant Coach for upcoming After School programs for two South Tampa schools (and, possibly, park programs), starting in January and February. Commitment is needed immediately, however, due to the finger-printing and approval process required to work in the school system.

This will start as very part time, 1099, but it's rewarding and there is opportunity for growth.

Job description: Assist Head Coach with setting up for class, help manage kids during games and drills, take photos for marketing, assist with clean-up, encourage and push kids to try their best.
