"RISE UP FOR PELTIER PRAYER VIGIL AND RALLY AT COLEMAN.

Leonard Peltier is one of the longest serving political prisoners in the United States. The 77 year old Anishinabe/Dakota elder has spent the last 47 years of his life housed in maximum security prisons.

The former US Attorney, James Reynolds. who supervised the post-trial sentencing and Appellate phases of Leonard’s case admitted they “shave corners” to get Leonard convicted and to prevent his appeals. Even the appellate court admitted had all the evidence been presented to the jury Leonard likely would have been acquitted (as were his co-defendants in a separate trial). In fact James Reynolds in a letter urging Biden to commute Peltier’s sentence, admitted they had no evidence that “Peltier committed any crime on the Pine Ridge Reservation”. Yet he sits behind bars suffering.

While we had planned a rally at the Tampa Federal Courthouse on Feb 6th, we learned on Friday January 28 at 8:30 PM that Leonard Peltier had contracted Covid-19. Peltier is 77 years old with serious heart disease (he had a triple by-pass in 2016), diabetes, prostate issues, an aortic aneurysm, and other health conditions of concern. Peltier meets all of the criteria for the Covid Release to Home Confinement developed by the Justice department in March 2021 that has led to the release of over 30,000 federal inmates but not Peltier. Leonard received his vaccinations in March 2021 and was eligible for a Booster in October 2021 but had not received one by the time he had contracted Covid.

Because of the very life threatening virus Leonard has contracted we decided to move the location to Coleman and include a prayer vigil for Leonard as part of the activity out of our grave concern for Leonard’s health

Please join us it is extremely important that we have as large a crowd as possible showing support for Leonard. There will be similar events Feb 6-7 in Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Little Rock, Rapid City, Marshall (WI), and all over the world with rallies and vigils planned in Paris, Frankfurt and Rome.

Also, please do the following:

Use the hashtag and spread the word for people to CALL the White House comment line and contact their representatives calling for Covid Release and/or Commutation/Clemency for Leonard.
