The housing affordability crisis here in Florida impacts residents of all ages and income levels. Projects like these bring us closer to addressing that issue head-on.

Team Driskell joined Tampa Councilman Luis Viera and disability advocate, Karen Clay to honor the life & legacy of her son Michael Phillips.

The street sign in front of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church memorializes Michael’s persistent advocacy for healthcare expansion & accessibility rights in our community. Michael, your presence will be sorely missed. 🕊️⛪️

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting Mort Elementary, to read "If You Take A Mouse to the Movies" and "Twas The Night Before Christmas" to a few of the school's students! I am so proud to be an ally to Mort Elementary, one of Tampa's community partnership schools. Happy Holidays! 🎄🎁

Had a wonderful time at 77th Annual Black & Gold Ball. Was so impressed by the ‘Men of Tomorrow’ Scholarship recipients. Tampa Bay’s future is even brighter thanks to these talented young people. Congratulations to all the awardees!

I am pleased to announce that the Department of State recently launched the Abandoned African American Cemeteries Grant Program!

Research institutions, colleges & universities, local governments & qualified nonprofits may now apply for grants of up to $50,000 for efforts such as conducting genealogical and historical research to identify and contact the relatives and descendants of persons buried in abandoned African-American centuries; and for repairing, restoring, and maintaining such cemeteries. No matching funds are required!

Applications and info can be found on the Dept. of State’s website in my bio. Please share! The application deadline is November 30, 2023, at 5 pm.

I had the pleasure of touring the Suncoast Goodwill facility today and learned about how they are giving new life to every item—ranging from prom dresses & furniture to children’s books & Halloween decorations.👻🕸

This Goodwill location has been partnering with community organizations to help reduce recidivism, improve early childhood reading, and support victims of human trafficking. Thank you so much for the wonderful tour!

It was such a pleasure to join the the Citrus County Democratic Party as a keynote speaker for their annual “Blue Gala” event.🌟💙

Congratulations to the NAACPHillsborough on a magnificent Freedom Fund Dinner last week. The NAACP has always bravely stood in the gap for marginalized communities. From challenging DeSantis' attack on the federal Voting Rights Act to holding the state accountable when it tries to make it harder for Floridians to vote, I am continuously inspired by the NAACP's efforts. The Hillsborough Education Foundation held their annual EmpowerED luncheon recently to help raise funds towards supporting thousands of students and teachers at our most underserved schools in Hillsborough County. 📚✏️

Uplifting kids and ensuring that our public education system is equipped with the resources they need is foundational to fostering strong communities across our state.

I was proud to accept the Carrie Meek Award presented by Ruth's List Florida at their annual 'She’s the Change' conference. Named after Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, the first Black person to represent Florida in the House after Reconstruction, I am still grinning with joy from receiving this special award. Thank you for this honor. 💙

Earlier this week I was delighted to speak at the Above and Beyond award ceremony presented by City & State Florida and The News Service of Florida. Exceptional women across the state were recognized for their accomplishments in politics, media, education, & nonprofit management.

I’m a room full of talented women, I was glad to be among them. Congratulations to all the nominees! 🏆🎊

As we wrap up our first committee week at the Capitol, it’s projects like these that remind me to keep fighting.

Unmarked graves found in Wakulla County and others across the state are at risk of being lost or destroyed—Abandoned African American cemeteries deserve better 🪦🕊

On National Voter Registration Day, I joined my fellow Democratic lawmakers and party leaders at the Capitol steps to elevate the importance of our most sacred right.

Registering voters, engaging voters, and VOTING is an ongoing process—let’s keep it up!

Although I cannot be in attendance tonight, I want to thank the Conference for African American Thought Leaders for honoring me with an award tonight at their State Action Council Reception in Washington, D.C.

I am delighted to be recognized alongside all the amazing past & present honorees. ✨
