Grading job for one of our custom builder clients in Baltimore county. He builds some very prestigious houses and of course we feel our grading needs to match the beauty of the home.

This was not an ideal design, it was a change to the original and a very slow process. Our team onsite was able to figure out a system and keep things moving to stay on schedule.

I am proud of these individuals for stepping out of their comfort zone and using their knowledge and skills to get this figured out. We weren’t supposed to help set the cross beams but our guys decided it would keep us moving along and would be faster in the long run.

There was a lot of frustration at first but we took a step back, we all agreed to go after it with a positive attitude and everything worked out.

I am fully responsible for taking on this project and the giant strain on this company. Work outside our usual scope, 100% of contract value in change orders, 21 revisions, 8 months delay in the schedule, and the in and out 40 times always hearing I need you now! But we have learned so much, our people in the field and office have had so much personal growth and we have built a strong relationship with a big client because through all the adversity we faced, we stepped up to the plate and performed without delay. Our guys in the field have figured out how to get the work completed in an efficient time and leaving the site for the next trade behind us exactly how it needed to be. I am truly grateful that they stuck through this one, and in just about 2 weeks we can finally pull off and move on with work that is in our scope.

Those of you who are familiar with the Shiny Shell in are familiar with this drive lane. The owners are good clients of ours and called us to help with the tight turn to get into the car wash. We jumped on this repair immediately after the 4th of July holiday and our team endured the extreme heat in order to get the car wash back up and running ASAP. We subbed out the tree removal and Coastal Site Services performed the concrete demolition, excavation and concrete work. Now they will have happy customers who can make the turn without a 3 point turn. We love the close to home work when it comes up!

In a true display of ownership and accountability, the team came together and demonstrated the real meaning of integrity. We put in an enormous amount of work, including three 13-hour days and a few hours on Saturday, to correct the issues and ensure a quality finished product. Instead of pointing fingers, we as a team took responsibility and worked together to achieve success, passing inspection and obtaining the U&O.

There is an interesting story behind this…. This duct bank came in front of us way late in the project for one. Then our client sent this to the electrician and Coastal to price, it’s a 12’ excavation that needed to be safely excavated and laid back and then backfilled in lifts in structural areas. The electrician under bid us because they did not bid the same drawing nor did they include backfill. They delayed the project almost 3 weeks before having us dig it for them…. This scope should have been walked through by the GC with both parties before awarding it. Our site Foreman Austin did a great job safely excavating this in the exact amount of time we had it bid for.

Extremely grateful for our team running dirt into a building, which is not a usual scope for us. We have never done something like this but our dedicated team was able to put their heads together and knock it out of the park working 12 hour shifts in the heat last week hauling in 50 tri-axle loads with walk behind machines. I am certain that we will steer clear of any projects of this nature in the future but I’m confident that our team will step up to any challenge.

We’ve been hard at work excavating these footers and installing the stone base for the prefabricated walls. Stone tolerance was 1” and the manufacturer and installer came out today to make sure everything was properly prepped for them to mobilize next week.

They were very happy with what they saw, checked grade and pulled string. These walls have multiple elevations and different sub grades for the stone and concrete. We typically do not do layout when digging footers and we often do our best to exclude footer excavation all together. We put a lot of time and effort into getting things as precise as possible and it definitely paid off.

Great job by one of Coastal Site Services crews

Ironically this picture was taken in March of 23’ at one of our projects at Cox Creek. I was shocked when I first saw the video this morning, I didn’t think nor did I want to believe it was real at first. The impact this will have on travel and shipping is immense, but even greater than that is how this will effect the people involved and their families lives and our thoughts and prayers go out to them.

We have more than 50% of this project close to grade. Soon we will be tearing it all up for utilities, u deerhound storm detention and footers.

Friday at 3:00 I got a call from the general superintendent for one of our clients saying he was bummed that we could work Saturday. Th reason being I wasn’t given enough heads up to our aggregate supplier to line up stone for Saturday. This project is hurting on the schedule (not due to our scope) and they were looking to get anything done to keep things moving along.

I called one of our independent haulers and he was able to swing 2 trucks, the aggregate supply was open and we were able to get 6 loads in to start backfilling the over dig and create more room on this tight job.

It was late in the day and week so I went in myself to perform the work. One of the perks of a small business is that you will see the owner out there on a Saturday to keep things moving.

We finally landed a full site package! We have been building our team, building relationships, bidding work and taking on jobs outside our comfort zone to get to this point! It took 2.5 years and a lot of hard work to get here and it feels amazing!

We have a few more site packages coming down the pipeline for 24’ and we are over the moon excited!!

We are thankful for our whole team for all their hard work, for their stepping out of their comfort zones and their ability to look at the bigger picture to get us to this point!

Aside from making a great picture, I am proud to be making this post. This job had it’s difficulties I’ll say, and not to our fault. We got a call at 9 am to see if we could come install these pipes ahead of the concrete crew who was there now and ready to work. Being as we had crews in DC and Bowie this was not a possibility, but I promised the superintendent we would have it in tonight. We did just that!

I was only able to make this promise because of my faith in the people we have and their dedication, and vision to grow this company. I did not have any hand in performing this work and all the glory goes to our crew out in the field.

Our young foreman, Seth, and his crew are making great progress out here at Pecan Ridge for

They made quick work of tearing down and separating, now they have trash trailers, metal trailers and dump trucks running all day on this site.

The developer called me to tell me how impressed he was with the site and how clean and neat it was, that really meant a lot to me. I take pride in job site presentation because it’s not only a reflection of us but also our customers. All these big machines catch a lot of people’s eyes and to look neat clean and professional looks good for all of us on the project.

#1. I am so lucky that my best friend is also my business partner, I know many couples aren’t fit to do this but I know that there is no better person to help me run Coastal than Katie. Here we are on “lunch” we were talking through a couple emails she had to send out and I told her one day we will have an office with a cozy vibe and a fireplace that we can just hang out in and I imagine it would be a time like this.

#2. This is our little office at the farm/shop. She laughed when I told her “see when we get our new office we can look back on how far we came” she told me that she loves that I do things like that. We are always on the same page with things like this and I love where we are and how far we have come, but I also love to dream about where we will be!

We’ve lent our services to help a good friend finish up a job by installing this bio retention at a custom home lot in Howard County. Our crews are knowledgeable in all aspects of site work including storm water management. Seth’s crew did a great job on this one!

Things are rolling along at this project in NE DC! Sheeting and shoring is staying right on schedule and we are set to start digging a hole next week! We are excited to be performing our first of hopefully many site packages for Monarc Construction, Inc.

Our new field superintendent, Cody and his crew installing E&S and relocating lines so the SOE company can start installing their piles. We are excited to start moving dirt on this project with Monarc Construction, Inc. so far they have been an excellent client to work with!

Some progress photos of phase 2 to this stormwater repair.

I was on vacation last week and our field superintendent and foreman kept everything running smoothly. We started E&S on a new project in DC, mobilized for an emergency situation on an ongoing project and continued working on this repair. It was a trial by fire test and I am too pumped to see everyone stepping up to the plate, and to show that Coastal Site Services is growing together as a whole.

Tarring out 2 miles of fence with this while we wait for the raze permit for this big demo project. This is an onld horse farm with 3 houses 4 barns a double wide trailer and a few run in sheds.
We are grateful for our this opportunity with a new client to show what we can do, hopefully this will lead to some land development projects in the near future!

Coastal Site Services’ personnel has officially reached double digits and we are looking to add one more team member. With plenty of work in progress and on the books we are looking for a part time CDLA driver to deliver materials and move our smaller machines like skid loaders, mini excavators, trench rollers ect.

Must be comfortable driving in DC and Baltimore city and everywhere in between.

We are starting another stormwater repair on 2 ponds in Baltimore County. This outfall was never built to the original design so we will be adding the gabion baskets and gabion basket toe wall as well as lining the washout with rock.

Yesterday I lost a bet on how quickly we could get started rolling this fill…. However our team did kill the deadline of 1.5 days to get to sub grade by completing before the end of day 1 and staying ahead of schedule.

This is Ethan, our youngest employee at 19 years old. He is a rare breed who is happy just to be working and is always in a great mood no matter what the task or what he has going on outside of work. I’m very grateful for the young people like him who help us hit deadlines day in and day out.

Our crews have been busy keeping up with our huge growth spurt. Meanwhile I was in bed for 3 days straight with a 103 fever, we thought it might have been lime’s disease because 2 weeks leading up to this I was feeling over tired and exhausted, but it was not. I’m pretty sure I just ran myself into the ground.

I am very grateful for our foreman who stepped up and took on extra responsibilities to keep things moving. And to be honest they might have inherited some of these responsibilities, it’s not that I didn’t want to give up control but these guys are growing in their careers with our company. This was a good test and they passed!

I learned a lot myself while laying in bed shivering for 3 days, I need to take some down time every now and then to recharge because I was doing no good in that condition.

We have been busy the last couple weeks playing catch-up. After a nice long weekend our crews are rested up and ready to keep going after it!

06/15/2023

We started digging one of the pools out for this pond. There is a 24” storm drain running through the center of the pond so the pooling area is broken into 2 pools.

I finally got to spend a little time in the seat getting used to the on this new Deere 135 P and man it did not disappoint!
I’ve been watching many videos with them and I think this will be a great project to utilize this set up.

Today I was able to move the pipe and stack it neatly at the entrance to be loaded out without having to get in and out of the machine. I cleaned up the topsoil tight to the stakes and was able to pick up a few boulders and place them in a channel with ease. I can’t wait to continue on with this project and get more comfortable with this attachment.

We are slowly but steadily breaking up this solid concrete loading doc we found sub surface. Our crew has been staying late to try to stay ahead of layout for the micropiles.
