On March 11th through March 29th East Cuban artists will be featured with an opening talk given by Soledad Pagliuca, from the St. Augustine/Baracoa Friendship Association. Featuring works by Eddy Ochoa Guzman, Roel Caboverde Llacer, Carlos Rene Aguilera Tamayo, Mildo Matas, Orlando Piedra, Jeho, and works from recently passed artists Pouyo and Eliades.

Created in 2001 by the 3-D artist this piece commemorates the battle between the NY Mets and NY Yankees, famous for Roger Clemons throwing out the first bat, at Mike Piazza. Fazzino each year is the official artist of NFL's Super Bowl and is known for his involvement in the Olympics, MLB All-Star Game, and many more achievements.

We are starting something new, a piece of art each month that we will offer at a super special price. Today's piece is Summer in Provence by Viktor Shvaiko. This work is an enhanced serigraph, signed and numbered by the artist, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Normally retailing at $1695 and framed at $2280, today, you can get it for $850. I met Viktor when he came to Nuance Galleries for an exhibition and found him to be a very warm and talented artist with a great way of capturing the beauty of Europe. His life story is fascinating. He was born in Russia in 1965 and found painting to be his way of seeing the world. He served in the Soviet Army and afterward, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, was determined to get to Europe but could not get a visa. So he traveled to the worn-torn Balkans and, in the chaos, was able to slip across the border, risking getting shot in the back. He traveled through Europe, surviving on his paintings until his artwork caught the eye of Eliot Burns of Soho Publishing. You will notice he does not have people in his works but leaves that for you, the viewer, to fill those chairs in your imagination.

I just received these new paintings by Eddy Ochoa Guzman, (Ochoa). They are gems. the largest is 18x31 and the two smaller ones 18x24". Since the artists of Cuba have been struggling and Eddy is one he is offering them at great prices. Normally $2200-2400 they are selling for $1200-1400. He has many museum shows and the last was a one man exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Often my collectors swear his works are photographs from a distance and he has a reputation at the artist of shadows and light.

I have put the entire Cuban Collection for sale with an ad in Latin American Art magazine. 16 artists almost 300 original pieces, plus original posters and museum posters. There is a DVD that was produced about the artists in this collection called Luminous Shadows. The collection has a US museum history and I have priced it to sell. I will continue helping the artists of East Cuba find collectors and galleries in the US. Let me know if you are interested.
