Watch Them Rise Equine Mentorship Program
Empowering at-risk girls to be leaders by providing the tools & guidance to meet their potential through our “Work to Ride” Equine Mentorship Program.
Her name was Kaitie Leising.
She was 29 years old, a new mother and a beloved member of her community. She was a St. Croix County sheriff's deputy. She stepped up and stood between those who would do harm and the innocent.
Deputy Leising lost her life Saturday, shot and killed by a suspected drunken driver in a rural area of Wisconsin just a little more than an hour east of Ramsey County.
As we mourn the crushing loss of life and honor her service, we think about her family, her colleagues with the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office and the community members she kept safe. We also think about all the men and women continuing to step up, waking up each day, putting on the uniforms, putting themselves at risk for the sake of others.
It is still a noble and needed profession.
Thank you all for what you do. And thank you, Deputy Leising, for your life of service. Godspeed.
We are having growing pains and in need of help! We are looking to add Board of Director members. We would prefer local Kern County residents, but open to remote people.

We are gearing up and getting ready for our next program day with on Wednesday✨ The volunteers and horses are ready to spend some time with our very special foster girls. I’ve been smiling all day knowing their joy and excitement will grace our day!
One of the most wonderful moments during our last session with the lovely girls of was with “Ava.” I was leading her while she was riding Tessa, chatting about life when she shared with me that she wanted to be a veterinarian. Of course it’s what I wanted to do as a child before I realized I had to actually cut them open🤦🏼♀️ She went on to share with me that prior to that day she wanted to work with small animals and after the day she shared with us, she was now going to focus on being a large animal vet.
How cool is that? It put a gigantic smile on my heart and face!
“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man”
- Sir Winston Churchill
We would be no where without our incredible and knowledgeable volunteers. Laurie is explains how to safely move around the horses. Safety is a huge component on what we teach our students. Most of them have never spent any time around such large animals so guiding them to be safe is one of the first demonstrations we give.
In order to take Watch Them Rise to the next level we are in need of adding some important people to our team. One of those includes a fundraiser.
We are seeking someone who has creative ways to raise funds. Someone who has great communication, follow through and has the time to reach out to donors, create events, and cultivate relationships with companies to help us reach our monetary goals.
If you would like to join us, please send me an email to [email protected]
Our goal is simple. To provide a safe and encouraging environment for our girls to experience the unwavering love of a horse.

Last Saturday we had the wonderful and seven of their girls out for Watch Them Rise.
We shared a theme of the day which was “Be brave.” Each girl shared with us what bravery meant to her. We asked if they were nervous about anything for the day and what they were most excited about.
We spoke to each girl throughout the day and kept coming back to our theme of “Be Brave.”
One of the most beautiful displays of bravery was from a girl, we will call her Audrey to protect her privacy.
Audrey was nervous. She had never been around horses. She walked with her eyes looking to the ground and shoulders low. At first she didn’t want to lead the horse. Then she did. We asked her to look up, guide the horse where they were headed. She did.
We then asked her if she would sit on the horse. She did. Her smile appeared. Her eyes gazed up.
We then asked if the horse could walk. She nodded, nervous, but BRAVE. She walked on the back of this giant horse for the first time. A giant smile and giggled graced her beautiful face. Everyone cheered for her and she cheered for herself. Proud and brave.
She started the day unsure. She ended it proud.
We were all proud. Not a face that didn’t have cheeks that hurt from smiling. All.day.long.
Hi guys, I’m Heather and I founded Watch Them Rise so that girls that would likely never have the opportunity to experience horses like my daughters would have the chance to experience their wonder.
My horses have saved my life in more ways than I can’t count, given me confidence when I couldn’t find my own and understanding when I felt no humans understood me.
The idea behind Watch Them Rise is to give our horses the opportunity to touch the lives of as many girls as we could reach.
Please help us accomplish those dreams by donating or sharing. We have 2 sessions under our belt with foster youth and a women’s sober living home. We are putting together a monthly session with to have their girls out. In order to commit to that, we need to secure funding for our WTR horses board.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
Hey gang! After our session with on Saturday, I went in to the pasture to say good by to Magic and notified his belly was incredibly swollen. I went to see what was happening and he was on so much pain he wouldn’t allow me to smtouch his side at all. I noticed there was a large puncture would so we called the vet.
She came out, gave him a sedative, shaved the area to see what was going on past his thick winter coat. Luckily the wound wasn’t as bad as it could have been. She put him on antibiotics and he is doing better today! The swelling has gone down and his pain level has lowered.
As you know, emergency vet calls aren’t cheap so we are in the hole $395.
I’f you have any $ to spare, we would be so grateful! The link to donate is in our bio.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Did you know?!?? Horses use their ears, eyes and nostrils to express their mood. They also communicate their feelings through facial expressions. This is why we use horses for therapy, they are gentle souls.

This program is one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of. We desperately need funds to keep our program going. Please consider donating if you can
Tomorrow is a BIG day for ALL nonprofits. Giving Tuesday is special for us. Going into the holidays and especially the 1st qtr of the year is typically a SLOW donation time. Please consider giving tomorrow....Watch Them Rise or another organization that speaks to your HEART. You will never regret a dollar donated to someone or something in NEED. ❤️

This was the moment. This was the moment when I felt through my body that this program was going to I accomplish what we have set out to do.
This woman and her child were all smiles from ear to ear. The little girl spread her arms out to the side exactly how the girl in our logo does and giggled. Her eyes smiled huge and I could tell in that moment she felt free.
We don’t know her story yet or how her family came to live in a sober living home, but for those few movements she was riding with her Mom, I’m sure her heart was happy and she felt safe. Her soul was filled with light and hope for a bright future.
The Mom was filled with gratitude as her and her baby shared this beautiful experience. She thanked me over and over and I couldn’t have been more proud of what our team has accomplished to make this a reality for these deserving humans.

I recently read on a parenting blog that instead of saying “Mom would be really proud of you if you did, this...” it’s important to say “wouldn’t you be really proud of YOURSELF if you did this?”
The idea is that we either create people pleasers or self pleasers. I naively had never thought of it that way and have since shared with Zach and my parents who all had an “aha” moment too .
It resonated with me so much that when I was walking with each person while they were riding Lucky I asked them “are you proud of yourself?”
.. the answer was always, “yes” with their eyes smiling.
If we can just change the narrative of the outside influence having more weight than how we feel about ourselves, we are making a difference.
I want each child In our program to grow up proud of who they are and to know their opinion of themselves matters more than what anyone else says or thinks of them.
To continue our efforts we are in need of donations to care for our horses!

WE HAD OUR FIRST EVENT! It was wonderful, we laughed, we connected, we smiled. We spread light in a world that seems dark right now!
I am so grateful for our team, our Boars of directors, our volunteers and ALL OF YOU! Without your support and donations over the last 2 years, none of this would be possible.
I will be sharing lots of videos and pictures so you can see more of how it looked and felt!
We are in need of donations for our horses, it costs about $1k a month for their bird, supplements and farrier. I would love to raise enough to get through winter so I don’t have to keep bugging everyone for it! If you can spare any amount we would be so grateful. If you aren’t able to, we totally understand and would love for you to share this post!
