Pudendal nerve entrapment is a very common cause of chronic buttock pain. It is caused by compression of the pudendal nerve. The symptoms of this condition usually include pain in one or both buttocks during running and pelvic floor dysfunction such as constipation or difficulty voiding, or both. This may be accompanied with symptoms such as numbness and tingling in the groin area extending down into one leg (sciatica). Pudendal neuralgia can affect males and females alike, but seems to be more common than previously thought. Before seeing an orthopedic surgeon, it is important to think about the things you want to discuss and how you want to go about asking questions about your condition. Bring a written list of symptoms or specific questions for the doctor. This way, you’ll make sure that you cover all your bases and the doctor won’t be able to miss anything.
