The Winter 2023 issue of "Winescape" is available now! Dr. Chris Bitter outlines three key takeaways in the market including:
🍇 The crush is likely to come in below average for the fourth consecutive year.
📈 Little activity on the spot market led to unfavorable prices for sellers.
🍷 Three-tier wine sales have not seen any clear sign of improvement.

The wine comes first at Robert Renzoni Vineyards & Winery, a Riverside County-based winery in the Temecula Valley. Owner Robert Renzoni started the operation in 2008, but his family's history in the wine industry goes back to 1886.
Robert, a fourth generation winemaker, designed his winery with his family's heritage in mind. But he also incorporated modern technology that harnesses the sun and rain via solar panels and rainwater storage tanks.
We're proud to work with Robert and support him as he produces high-quality wine. Read more at https://brnw.ch/21wFwJC.

Looking to stay informed on the U.S. wine industry? We are excited to announce the launch of our comprehensive U.S. wine report series with Terrain!
Designed to help customers stay informed, "Winescape" provides in-depth analysis of the wine and grape markets as well as trending topics, including consumer trends, vineyard values and more.
Here are three takeaways from the first issue of "Winescape," according to its author, Terrain analyst Chris Bitter:
1. The wine market will remain challenging for the foreseeable future (so wineries and growers will have to sharpen their focus to stay ahead of the curve).
2. Grape demand and prices have softened in 2023 due to declining wine sales and a larger crop. Chris expects that dynamic to extend into 2024 as well.
3. Generational shifts have created a long-term challenge in the wine and grape industry. Namely, the younger generations aren't as enthusiastic about wine as baby boomers.

This week, we were at the U.S. Capitol attending the to discuss the importance of a strong Farm Bill as agriculture faces challenges ahead. Mary Gillis was seven years old when her family purchased a farm in southern New Mexico, determined to carve out a niche growing chile peppers, onions and other crops on fertile land near the Rio Grande.
Today, she is 87 years old and still farming with the help of her adult children, grandchildren and more than 100 employees of Gillis Farms. Duane and Dale Gillis, two of Mary’s adult sons, are partners in the business and fourth-generation farmers.
As Gillis Farm has grown steadily over the years, so has the reputation of New Mexico’s Hatch green chiles. The peppers are now widely regarded in the U.S. for their rich flavor and balance of sweetness and heat. Legislators this week had the opportunity to sample products from the Gillis Farm as we advocated for strong rural support during the Farm Credit Fly-In. Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21wEtHh
Emma McCaulley was a culinary student set on becoming a pastry chef when she took an internship at a goat dairy on Maui. More than a decade later, Emma and her family now run a fully-integrated goat dairy operation on Oahu.
Sweet Land Farm tends up to 500 goats at a time, producing thousands of gallons of milk each week that is sold fresh or crafted into award-winning cheeses, caramel, lotions, and soaps. We're excited to share their story with legislators this week at the Farm Credit Fly-In in D.C. https://brnw.ch/21wEphG
The future of ag lives with the next generation, and that means it’s critical to introduce children to agriculture. So, we partnered with Starlight Elementary School to help give young students an opportunity to make meaningful connections between their core subjects and the world of food.
Happy Veterans Day! We’re proud to partner with Veterans to Farmers, an organization that helps train and educate veterans transitioning out of the military, connecting them to resources, training, and employment opportunities in agriculture as they return to civilian life.

After 100 years of cattle and crop farming near Lodi, California, the Coldani family decided to start a small olive oil company. At some point the new venture "grew legs and kept on going." Today, consumers can get a taste of their Calivirgin olive oil and wine in a new tasting room.
We're excited to share the Coldani family story and their Calivirgin olive oils with legislators at next week's Farm Credit Fly-In. Coldani Olive Ranch - Calivirgin - Lodi Ca Olive Oil
Congrats to our very own VP of Legislative Affairs Jeana Hultquist for being awarded the National FFA Honorary American Degree at the National FFA Convention on Friday!
