Weekend Missions-Mexico

For five days last week, we served a large group of 200 people, 12 meals in four days. The group recruited unchurched locals alongside 30 different churches and pastors, to come to the baseball stadium Saturday night for a crusade. Through their efforts they affected approximately 1000 souls. The 200 people came from Texas, Florida, and Arizona. Bethel Chandler was the Leadership Group and facilitator for this group. We were fortunate to serve these 200 missionaries!

June 6-10, Rocky Point Crusade Trip 200
Sign-up to Volunteer! WM's function is to serve 12 delicious meals to a 200 person group, and you will be part of that team! The 200 missionaries are in Rocky Point to recruit people to show up to a crusade at the baseball stadium on Saturday night, June 8th. On the evening of June 9th, the group will be doing baptisms in the ocean. We have experienced leadership in place and your role will be a specific job, which will change frequently. We will communicate details with you after your registration is submitted. If you need transportation, we can probably find you a ride. Your lodging and meals will be provided. Opportunities for volunteers the weekend of 2/2-2/4! (There are no NFL playoff games that weekend). We are in the middle of painting the exterior of Mission Villa Granada and need your help! Overnight stay(s) are FREE. Come down and work 6 hours per day and vacation the other 10. Some meals may be provided. Hard working volunteers will get extra special treatment! Join the Fight for Community Connection: Petition for the Reinstatement of Full Services at Lukeville Border Crossing 2,068 signatures are needed, let’s get there by the end of the day?

If you have not heard, the Lukeville port of entry is closed indefinitely.
The alternate driving route we are suggesting is to head to San Luis port of entry (south of Yuma 15 miles), which is open 24 hours everyday. After entering Mexico, pick up Highway 2, which runs parallel with the border towards Sonoita, then head down to Rocky Point from Sonoita. This is about a 7-8 hour trip. Any other route, we do not suggest. And we always suggest to drive in Mexico during daylight hours.
Traffic at the border during December and January is slower than most months. We hope to see this over by January 31, 2024. The state of AZ (ADOT) says highway 85 is closed at the border until January 31, 2024.
Thank God we have a steady flow of Mexican Nationals who use and pay for the hotel accommodations, for now. We actually have a church group down from the states this week. This kind of activity will pay the bills.
Please pray for everyone involved and that somehow the people of Puerto Penasco survive this period. Some will pick up and move to greener pastures. Layoffs at local businesses have already started, etc. Beaches have no people on them. Occupancy rates are running about 15%, and based on reservations for condos, is not expected to be any better. Think about making a trip sometime and/or donating to the cause.
Thank you for your prayers for the people in Mexico. My personal opinion, is that the Lukeville Port of Entry will reopen by February 1st. If it does not, we could be looking as late as April 1st. And if not April 1st, we will need to vote in a new President in November for it to change. Thanks for reading this. Mark Lastovica

Mission trip October 6-8, 2023.

We had a beautiful weekend hosting a youth church group from El Mirage. The youth that came on the trip understood that they had to leave their phone at home. Their engagement was very heartwarming!

March for Jesus in Rocky Point today!

Highlands Church Men, out of Scottsdale, came down for 4 days and did tons of work this past weekend. Roof installed over the open area between the 2 wings. New sidewalk installed from the pool area to the courtyard, and electrical projects throughout that needed to be taken care of. Thanks men, for your time away from your loved ones!
