Wow 🤩 I just get so excited when I see delicious ingredients in food products:
🙄 *sarcasm*

➡️ Who would not like high fructose corn syrup in apple sauce and ketchup? 🍏🍅
➡️Never mind the high rates of obesity, diabetes and metabolic dysfunction….
➡️But that’s ok, they must be good for you, your family and your kids otherwise they would not sell such products, right? 🤔

➡️Oh maybe we should just hide trans fat in the form of mono and diglycerides in peanut butter….from canola and soybean oil because I totally enjoy soybean oil in my peanut butter, don’t you? 🙊 I am sure your kids do too! 😬

➡️And lastly, since gluten-free is sooooo healthy, perhaps you would like to choose gluten-free pasta with mono and diglycerides?
🍝 Yum 😋…my mouth is watering (*not*)! 🤮

⏩ This is one of the most common questions I get from patients!!

🔴 Maybe you were recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, for example, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and you heard about the AIP diet.

🔴 Or perhaps you have had an autoimmune condition for a while and have been following the AIP diet.

🔴 Regardless of where you are in this process you may or may not be clear on how long you should follow the AIP diet 🙄🧐

✅ The reality is that the AIP diet should be followed for as long as the autoimmune condition exists!!

❌🏃‍♂️ Run if you are offered a “thyroid program or protocol”.

❓ Why?

✅ Because YOU are unique and different than someone else!

✅ Because Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and hypothyroidism have different triggers.

✅ Because what triggered your immune system may be different than what triggered someone else’s

✅ Because if you are given a “thyroid protocol or program” you will NOT be getting a personalized treatment plan

✅ Because YOUR triggers will NOT be addressed this way

❌ This is what a patient was told by her provider before she came to me. 🙊🤯🤯

⭕️ Hashimoto’s sucks but it does not have to be this way.

⭕️ This patient had elevated thyroid antibodies but her thyroid hormones were “normal”. The provider told her there was nothing wrong!! 😰

🆘 ✅ How about addressing lifestyle factors, sugar dysregulation, dietary and environmental triggers? How about helping the patient understand what is going on?

EASY TRICKS AND TIPS:

Notice how every time you go to a restaurant to eat, you are presented with several sources of starchy/sugary carbs: chips or bread, cocktails or wine, potato, rice or pasta with your main dish, and finally dessert.

Tip: Next time you go out to eat PICK just one source of starchy/sugary carb. If you want chips/bread, then don’t order a drink, opt for extra veggies with your main dish, and do not get dessert. If you love pasta, then do not eat the chips or bread, do not order a drink or dessert so you can enjoy your pasta.

By implementing this easy tip, you can still enjoy the foods you like while minimizing caloric intake and the impact on blood sugar.

Extra tip: Combine this tip with the last tip I shared for even better results.

Easy tricks and tips:
If you struggle with carbs or eating too much, I recommend eating your veggies and protein first. Eating them first will promote satiety before you get to your carbs. It will also blunt your body’s glucose (blood sugar) response when you actually do eat your carbs. Avoiding a big rise in glucose may assist in maintaining a more stable blood sugar and insulin levels and may decrease the desire to eat more.

And yes, that is a salad with chicken hearts! Yum!
