The Fourth of July is Independence Day, the day we commemorate the Declaration of Independence, which dates back to 1776. It’s all about freedom, patriotism, independence, and our very lives here in this great country.
All of us at ASA wish you a safe and sane day of celebration and hope that you will reflect on what a privilege it is to say:
Happy Birthday, America!

GREAT NEWS FOR OFF-ROADERS: THE SUPREME COURT PUTS THE BRAKES ON THE EXPANDING “ADMINISTRATIVE STATE”

In a landmark ruling today, the U.S. Supreme Court significantly reduced the regulatory power of unelected government officials. In the cases of Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v. Department of Commerce, the Court held that the judicial branch no longer must “defer” to the judgment of federal government agencies in deciding whether the agencies have gone too far in issuing and enforcing federal regulations. This could have huge implications for the off-road industry, since the Environmental Protection Agency and similar agencies will now be forced to better justify their efforts to close public lands. Kudos to the Justices of the Supreme Court for working to reign-in out-of-control federal government regulation.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Please consider donating to your favorite off-road advocacy organization (American Sand Association). https://americansandassociation.org/

Flag Day is a holiday celebrated on June 14 in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution stated "That the flag of the thirteen United States is thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union is thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." At ASA we celebrate, respect, and treasure the freedom our flag represents.

One key to saving motorized access to dunes and trails is having all the interested parties, groups, and organizations band together in a unified front. Oceano Dunes is a prime example of this in California.
Be sure to join and support those groups working to protect your access to public lands.

On May 15, CA State Parks staff hosted a tour of Oceano Dunes SVRA (ODSVRA) for the OHMVR Commission and members of the public. The tour focused solely on species conservation, habitat restoration, and dust mitigation. No information was presented on the OHV user experience, conditions for OHV riding, or user concerns. A letter was sent from Cal4Wheel and American Sand Association to leadership of CA State Parks OHMVR Division and the OHMVR Commission, to summarize our concerns and advance opportunities for continued collaboration with CA State Parks and the OHMVR division. The future of motorized recreation lies in the hands of our youngsters and how we raise them today. Featured here is Oscar, the grandson of Jim and Shirley Bramham, 15 years apart.

In 2009 at a cal4wheel convention, Jim (ASA, Cal4) and Oscar were playing with the cell phone when it dawned on many of us, “Who will answer when the future calls?”

The Bramham's said, “Our grandson, Oscar, the Eagle Scout, leader, mentor, and knowledge seeker – will answer and be the future.”

Join those groups/associations like ASA and CA4WDA that help young ones see the world right! We must raise ‘um right, and give them opportunities to grow and learn from good examples of parents and family. Join us! Help ensure we have a good answer when the future calls.

How Much is Your Playground Worth?

We currently have 14,000 members on our ASA group page and less than 900 people who actually support us with $25 per year to help us keep the dunes open! Where would you go if your playground was taken away? More and more of our off-road riding areas are closing or being reduced significantly in size. Look at Pismo/Oceano for example.

In 2000, 49,000 acres of the Imperial Sand Dunes were closed to riding and with the ASA’s help, over 2 million dollars in attorney fees, and over 15 years of battling it out in the courts, we were finally able to get 40,000 acres reopened to riding. We couldn’t have done it without support from our members and business sponsors.

The fight is not over! In addition to maintaining the riding opportunities in the dunes, we are still working on getting access back to Patton Valley Road in the South Dunes via the Sand Highway. We are also working on providing safe access across the tracks for those who want to recreate on trails East of the dunes.

We can’t do these things without your help. Please sign up for a Supporting Membership and help us keep your favorite riding area open! You can do so via our website at www.asasand.org or click the sign up button on our page and it will take you to our store where you can select the $25 Supporting Membership.
