Check out this article!

Parent Cue A team of family experts and everyday parents working together to help you make every moment count as you launch your kids on their next big adventure.

There are two kinds of people you encounter: people who give life and people who drain life out of you.

You have dinner with a friend and leave feeling refreshed and energized. Conversely, you can spend 10 minutes with someone who drains you and walk away feeling like you need a mini-vacation to recover.

What is it that makes the difference between the two people?

For starters, life-giving people have one thing in common—they have external sources that give them life, so they have something to give when you’re in a room with them.

And the opposite can be said of those who drain the life out of you—they don’t have consistent, external sources of life. They have little to give and, in fact, spend much of their time trying to take. That’s exhausting.

So, here’s the question: What if this pattern impacts our parenting? The lives of parents get so interwoven with the ups and downs of our kids. Do we approach our kids from a life-giving perspective or do we end up trying to steal life from them?

Like…

The dad who is so enmeshed in the success of his kids at sports that you would think his life will collapse if his kid doesn’t make the big leagues.

The mom who invests her identity in the academic success of her children—an A in school is an A for mom, and a D in school is a D for mom.

The parent who gave up everything that gave them life to invest 110 percent of their energy and time in their children.

When we look to our children to be the source that gives us life, could we end up stealing life from them?

In the same way friends can drain us when it seems their happiness is tied up in our happiness, parents whose sense of well-being is over-invested in the rise and fall of their children can end up draining life from the generation to whom we should be bringing life.

This isn’t saying we shouldn’t care about our kids—parenting is emotional. But maybe our role is as much to bring life into their life than it is to find our life in them.

Compelled Families!!

Our nursery is expanding and moving locations! Starting March 2nd & 3rd, the nursery will be located in the KIDS wing in rooms B3 (newborns & crawlers) and B4 (walkers) and will now include our 2 year old's!

Once a child turns 3, they will promote to Pre-K (Jr.KIDS) in B7&B8 with our 4 & 5 year old's.

Any questions? Contact Pastor Scotty!

From Orange:

The words “parenting” and “worrying” are pretty much synonymous.

We worry if our kids are sleeping too little.
We worry if our kids are sleeping too much.
We worry if they’re eating too much cereal.
We worry they’re not eating enough.
We worry we’re destroying their futures somehow.
We worry there’s something we’re overlooking.

The thing is, we’re all trying to do the best we can, given the circumstances. (And by “circumstances” we mean being responsible for raising decent humans who will one day make up the next generation.) Instead of spending the bulk of our days wrought with anxiety, we can do something different—we can remind ourselves our best is good enough. We can also remember the power we hold in thinking positively about our parenting experience. Ultimately, the direction we point our thoughts directly determines the direction of our lives.

To combat parenting worry, here are 10 truths we can remind ourselves of daily:
1. I am the best parent for my kids.
2. I will not compare myself to other parents or compare my kids to other kids.
3. I will do what I can do. I can’t do it all, and that’s okay.
4. My kids know they are loved, safe, and accepted.
5. I will fully embrace today, knowing that not everything will go exactly as planned.
6. It’s okay—in fact, it’s necessary—to take care of myself.
7. I might not see it now, but the time I invest in my kids does matter.
8. My kids don’t want perfect, they just want me.
9. We are a family, no matter what. We will cheer for and defend each other, no matter what.
10. It’s okay to ask for help.
When we choose to worry (and it is a choice), we choose to live lives that are half-lived. Our kids need a parent who understands perfection was never in our job description. Our primary job is to show up for our kids every day…and the best way we can do that is making sure we control our thoughts rather than allowing our thoughts to control us.

Your faith deserves to grow, too.
A strong faith is a requirement when it comes to raising the next generation. The Parent Prayer Cards are designed to easily guide you in praying for yourself, your kids, and your family. The pack of 12 cards includes a characteristic of God and a Scripture reference for you to focus on each month of the year for a strong and growing faith.
