I grew up in a small town on the Texas Gulf Coast, lived on the central coast of California for the 8 years, Colorado Springs for almost 5 years and recently moved back to our home state of Texas. From the time I can remember, my life has revolved around family, creativity, animals and the outdoors. I always knew I wanted to follow my passion for art and creativity, but never dreamed I would be ab

If youāve seen the movie āThe Mitchells vs. The Machinesā youāll recognize this guy for sure š If you havenāt, you should probably go to Netflix and watch it right now because itās pretty much one of the best movies ever. Itās definitely a favorite around our house, so this was a fun costume for all of us!! Michael and I were Rick and Linda Mitchellā¦Iāll add a couple of photos of the three of us in the comments š Happy Halloween! The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Two Christmas Eves in a row, Cannon fell asleep by the Christmas tree before we could even read āThe Night Before Christmas.ā He was so worn out from all the fun with his cousins and family members ā¤ļø Weāre so excited to be able to spend more time with family and friends this year without all the rush and cross-country travel, while making new Christmas memories at our own home š
My handsome boy Rye looking like he was made for the Fall. We spent a little time on our family land in East Texas over the weekend and I have to say, I was impressed with the fall colors Texas was showing off! It made missing the Aspens change in Colorado a little less painful š Shot with a Lensbaby Composer Pro II + Sweet 50, so focus/blur effect is shot in-camera, not post processingā¦itās a pretty fun little lens!

These two recently celebrated birthdays at the end of October! Canāt believe Rye is already 4 and Kona is now 14!! š¤©š§š Love our pups so much ššš

Cannon had a blast as Luke Skywalker this year! In past years, he hasnāt really had an idea or opinion on what he wants to be for Halloween, but this year he was VERY specificā¦He wanted to be Luke Skywalker as an X-Wing pilot. With an old toy football helmet, lots of duct tape, paint, an astronaut suit and a bunch of random bits and pieces (most of which we had around the house) we made it happen! š Here are a couple of shots I got of him in my studioā¦

Iām so grateful for times that my passions for photography/art and equine assisted therapy can intersect and work togetherā¦I love working in this field and having opportunities like this to capture and share tiny glimpses of the bond and impact our horses, volunteers, instructors and programs have on the lives of so many š Hereās to molding a life/career out of what I truly love and care about, even if my interests are wide and all over the place š
Happy New Year everyone!!!
Merry Christmas Eve everyone š Hope itās full of magic!
If anyone is wanting last minute holiday photos, I decided to open up a few final slots this weekend for either box composite photos or milk and cookies photos on my studio bed (Iāll post an example in a bit) Please message me for more info or to schedule a session š

To our men and women in uniformā¦past, present and future. Thank you today and every day for the oath you swore and the sacrifices youāve made. Iām especially proud and thankful for my own veteran, Michael May and grateful that I get to serve our military community through my work with StableStrides.
I created this image in honor of our local veterans and the work we do alongside the horses to support and give back to the military community. ā„ļø
Last Thursday, I was able to join Cannon as a chaperone on his expedition fieldwork day to the Pueblo Raptor Center. It was such a cool experience to learn about all the birds of prey that they rescue and rehabilitate there, and we even got to meet a Great Horned Owl and Peregrine Falcon up close!

"Recent studies conducted by the Institute of HeartMath provide a clue to explain the bidirectional "healing" that happens when we are near horses. According to researchers, the heart has a larger electromagnetic field and higher level of intelligence than the brain: A magnetometer can measure the heart's energy field radiating up to 8 to 10 feet around the human body. While this is certainly significant it is perhaps more impressive that the electromagnetic field projected by the horse's heart is five times larger than the human one (imagine a sphere-shaped field that completely surrounds you). The horse's electromagnetic field is also stronger than ours and can actually directly influence our own heart rhythm!
Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a "coherent" heart rhythm (heart rate pattern) which explains why we may "feel better" when we are around them. . . .studies have found that a coherent heart pattern or HRV is a robust measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy--that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adjust to stressful situations very efficiently. Often times, we only need to be in a horses presence to feel a sense of wellness and peace. In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits while interacting with horses, including lowered blood pressure and heart rate, increased levels of beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters that serve as pain surppressors), decreased stress levels, reduced feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, improved social functioning; and increased feelings of empowerment, trust, patience and self-efficacy."

My Story
Hello, my name is Amy! Yep, just Amy...I was lucky enough to marry into the other half of my anagram of a name ;) I grew up in a small town on the Texas Gulf Coast. There I enjoyed anything involving creativity, animals, sports or the outdoors. Over ten years ago, I married my longtime friend from my hometown and we began our journey together into Air Force life. We were fortunate enough to live on Californiaās beautiful central coast for over 8 years, and now we are excited to call the Colorado Springs area our new home. We live in Falcon with our 3 year old son, and we try to take advantage of as much live music, great food and outdoor adventure as we can.
When I was younger, I always knew I wanted to find a way to follow my passion for art, creativity and helping others, but never dreamed I would be able to make a living working in not just one, but two different fields that are so challenging, inspiring and rewarding to me. As a photographer, I specialize in equine, family, live music and documentary genres. I absolutely love being able to bring in my own unique perspective to capture lifeās wide array of emotions, moments and details. Photography fulfills my intrinsic need to slow down, see the beauty in the little things and share what I see with others. I also work part time as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor and Equine Specialist at Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center. Working in the field of equine assisted therapy has been so incredibly rewarding. I feel fortunate to work with such an amazing team of people and horses, all coming together to help provide healing, growth and companionship to individuals so deserving of it all. Iāll be the first to admit that my life and my interests are all over the place, but I wouldnāt have it any other way!
If youāre wondering what set me on what may seem like two very different paths in life, hereās a little more info....I earned my undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where I double-majored in Studio Art and Art History and minored in New Media. While there, I played NCAA softball and focused on photography and sculpture as my areas of academic emphasis. After completing my BA, I spent a year in the fine art world, helping manage sales and curate exhibits at the gallery of a well known fine art dealer in San Antonio. However, it didn't take long for me to realize that my passions lay, not in dealing with the art of others, but in creating my own. Shortly after this realization, I enrolled in a graduate program through the Academy of Art in San Francisco where I completed my MFA in documentary photography. There, my classes and thesis work allowed me to really delve into what truly drives and inspires me outside of my photographic work. It was a soul searching journey that made me realize that there was a huge part of me still yearning to explore my love of animals and helping others. Inspired by this revelation, I became a volunteer at the Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Riding Program. I had owned and ridden horses most of my life, but after experiencing the incredible power of equine assisted therapy, there was no turning back. I knew I had to become an instructor and continue down this path. I completed my therapeutic riding certification in 2011 and have been challenging myself to learn and grow as an instructor ever since. As I grow more as an individual and a photographer, I am striving to integrate my passions to build a life that I can be truly proud of...helping people find mental and physical health and growth, while creating a body of photographic work that evokes emotion, raises awareness and supports causes that are so dear to my heart.
