Please share any extra you may have with those who have less to work with.

Snow is forecast for the Gorge starting Thursday morning through Friday, and North Central Public Health District (NPCHD) has vaccine clinics scheduled for Thursday and Saturday at the Fort Dalles Readiness Center in The Dalles. At this time, NCPHD is planning on holding the clinics as expected.

We are coordinating with the City of The Dalles and Columbia Gorge Community College, and the college will clear the parking lots at the readiness center and the entrance to the college off Scenic Drive for the Thursday and Saturday events.

The city of The Dalles already prioritizes Scenic Drive during snow events but will increase the frequency at which crews will drive along Scenic to keep the roads clear for our clinics. The three main roads that will be prioritized for snow removal leading to Scenic Drive are Trevitt Street, Dry Hollow Road and Kelly Avenue.
We are deeply appreciative of the city and college for their crucial assistance.

If we have to cancel the clinics due to inclement weather, we will immediately publicize the cancelations through our NCPHD page, our website, at www.ncphd.org, our email list, and through local media.

If some clients do not feel comfortable attending a clinic due to the weather, they may call us, on the day of the clinic only, at 541-288-3374 to cancel. The phone is not monitored except during clinic hours.

(For more information, please visit COVID-19 Vaccine in Oregon or contact North Central Public Health District at (541) 506-2600 or visit us on the web at www.ncphd.org or https://wascoshermangilliamcovid-19.com/)

International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day marked in Gorge 11/20/2020

Join us this Saturday via Zoom💞

“We’ve had people come to the Survivors of Su***de Loss programs who lost someone literally months earlier, and people who come 30 years later,” she said. “We had a sister and brother come one year, who had lost their sibling 30 years earlier and thought it was important to come and talk about it and how they managed their grief — they took different paths.”

The meeting is confidential; those who attend are asked to introduce themselves to whatever extent they’re comfortable. Next comes the AFSP documentary (this year’s film is approximately 26 minutes long) that features those who have lost a loved one to su***de.

“By listening to them talk about how they’ve managed their grief over time, then it opens it up for discussion,” said Gabay.

The International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day event is not a counseling session, but “it’s a way of getting it out,” she said. “… That’s why I think people come who have lost someone years ago — they’ve stuffed it all those years. This is a way to come to terms with it.”

Gabay will be remembering her daughter, Susanna, who, at age 21, took her life in May 2010. She brought the program to Hood River in November 2011.

“When (Susanna) died, I wanted to talk about it,” she said. “That’s when I was confronted with the stigma around mental illness.”

Let’s hope we won’t need it.

Motorcycle accident on East I 84 backs up traffic for 2 miles — Columbia Community Connection 07/16/2020

UPDATE: Deceased is Nelson Ray Martin, 42, of Hood River, OR

"Robbie Denning and Cole Goodwin reported seeing the motorcyclist passing them in the left lane at a considerable speed only moments before the crash occurred. “We were headed into work and we saw a red motorcycle with a confederate flag on it pass us,” said Goodwin “Only moments later we turned a corner and there was a man standing in the center medium waving his arms and trying to get the attention of oncoming traffic. There were human remains and vehicular debris across both lanes. The scene was absolutely gruesome. We knew immediately that the person we’d seen pass us only a moment ago must have died in the collision. It was brutal. We tried to look away but it was impossible. My thoughts go out to their friends and family.”

Oregon coronavirus among under 10 kids grows fivefold, to nearly as many cases as people over 80 07/12/2020

The number of COVID-19 cases among children under the age of 10 in Oregon was more than five times greater at the end of June than it was one month earlier.
"The multiplying case numbers in young children was first reported Wednesday by The Oregonian, which said the age group had the fastest-growing number of new cases than any other in the state.

"I hope that the increasing cases among children will lead people to reevaluate their behavior and to take additional precautions," Dr. Melissa Sutton, a senior health adviser for the OHA, told the paper. Though Sutton said the increase could partially be attributed to infections at child care facilities, the community exposure children had in the wake of the state's reopening was mostly responsible.

"Modeling from the Oregon Health Authority shows that if we don't take further action to reduce the spread of the disease, our hospitals could be overwhelmed by new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations within weeks," Brown said in a news release announcing the mask mandate. "The choices every single one of us make in the coming days matter."

Oregon coronavirus among under 10 kids grows fivefold, to nearly as many cases as people over 80 The number of coronavirus cases among children under 10 in Oregon is still below 4 percent, but the age group's infection rate is rising quickly.
