Happy birthday to our resident teacher Kadam Rebecca Gauthier. Thank you for all your hard work and tireless effort in teaching people how to meditate so they can achieve peace, happiness, and a meaningful life.
Anger is one of the most common and destructive delusions and it afflicts our mind almost every day. There is nothing more destructive than anger. It destroys our peace and happiness, blocks our spiritual progress, and is particularly harmful in relationships.
It is through our anger and hatred that we transform people into enemies We generally assume that anger arises when we encounter a difficult person, but actually it is the anger already within us that that transforms the person we meet into an enemy.
Having understood the many faults of anger, we should watch our mind closely at all times. As soon as we notice our mind getting agitated - we should immediately recall the faults of anger and channel our mind in a more constructive direction.

“Prostrations are a powerful method for purifying negative karma, disease, and obstacles, and for increasing our merit, our happiness, and our Dharma realizations.
Temporarily, prostrations improve our physical health, and ultimately they cause us to attain a Buddha’s Form Body.”
- Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, The Bodhisattva Vow
Join us at Tush*ta Kadampa Buddhist Center this Saturday 9:30am to 1:30pm for a half day workshop on Purifying the Past. Everyone is welcome to join. .us
‘Tara’ means ‘Rescuer’. She is so called because she rescues us from the eight outer fears (the fears of lions, elephants, fire, snakes, thieves, water, bo***ge, and evil spirits), and from the eight corresponding inner fears (the fears of pride, ignorance, anger, jealousy, wrong views, attachment, miserliness, and deluded doubts).
Temporarily Tara saves us from the dangers of rebirth in the three lower realms, and ultimately she saves us from the dangers of samsara and solitary peace.
If we rely upon Mother Tara sincerely and with strong faith she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfill all our wishes. Since she is a wisdom Buddha, and since she is a manifestation of the completely purified wind element, Tara is able to help us very quickly.
If we recite the twenty-one verses of praise we shall receive inconceivable benefits. These praises are very powerful because they are Sutra, the actual words of Buddha. It is good to recite them as often as we can.
Join us at Tush*ta Kadampa Buddhist Center today at 2pm to engage in Tara chanted meditation prayers.
Buddha taught that the mind has the power to create all pleasant and unpleasant objects. The world is a result of the karma, or actions of the beings who inhabit it. A pure world is a result of pure actions and an impure world is the result of impending actions.
Since all actions are created by mind, ultimately everything, including the world itself, is created by mind. There is no creator other than mind.

Normally we look for happiness outside ourself. We try to obtain better material conditions, a better job, higher social status, and so one, but no matter how successful we are in improving our external conditions, we will continue to experience problems and dissatisfaction.
Buddha advises us not to seek happiness outside ourself but to establish it within our mind. By training our mind in the method of meditation we can ensure our mind remains calm and happy all the time.
-How to Solve Our Human Problems by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Buddha taught the importance of distinguishing unpeaceful states of mind such as anger, jealousy, and attachment from peaceful states including patience, love, compassion, and wisdom.
States of mind that disturb our inner peace are called delusions. These are the principal causes of all our suffering and must be abandoned. The essence of Buddha’s teachings is to reduce and eventually completely eradicate all delusions and replace them with positive peaceful minds. This is the main purpose of training in meditation.
Everything depends upon our mind. This is very different from how we normally think. Usually we automatically assume that our happiness and suffering occur because of our outer circumstances- we believe that our family, job, house, health, neighbors, friends, financial situation, etc. are the main factors that determine whether we’re having a good day or a bad day, if we’re happy or we are miserable.
Buddhist philosophy offers a different explanation. According to its teachings, happiness and suffering arise principally from the mind. In fact, the entire universe and everyone in it originate from the power of the mind,
Everything that exists is shaped by the power of the mind and all that we encounter and experience is determined by our mind.

Meaningful to Behold by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Every moment of our life is precious, rare, and has the potential to be incredibly meaningful. Yet, with the stress, difficulties, and problems we experience every day - it can be difficult to remember how fortunate we really are - causing us to take for granted everything and everyone around us - including the gift of just being alive.
This is why in Buddhism, we meditate on our precious human life. This simple meditation has the power to uplift our mind, giving us a renewed sense of gratitude, purpose, and joy.
This special meditation also has the power to awaken the limitless potential for happiness and transformation that lies within each and every one of us.
Overcome adversity and difficulty in your life with spiritual power…

Join us Thursday, August 22nd 6:30pm-8pm for an introduction to Lamrim followed by a four day guided meditation retreat Friday, August 23th through Monday, August 26th.

Sundays at 10am we engage in powerful meditation prayers to the Buddha of Compassion, Buddha Avalokiteshvara during which we recite his blessed mantra OM MANI PAME HUM.
With OM we are calling Avalokiteshvara, MANI means the precious jewel of enlightenment, PAME means liberation, and HUM means bestow.
Together the meaning is ‘O Avalokiteshvara, please bestow the precious jewel of enlightenment to liberate all living beings.’ Through the recitation of this mantra we train in the compassionate mind of bodhichitta.
