Southwell held a breast cancer screening awareness event this week, featuring a panel of experts including Dr. Andrew Nackashi, Dr. Kristin Yates Coleman, Judy Weaver, FNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, and Brittany Felthauser, RT(R)(M)(CT).
Dr. Nackashi highlighted how important it is for women to receive their screening mammograms, even though new technology may promise a more comfortable experience. "The CT Koning that is now offered in our community is approved for diagnostic screening. This technology is still in the study phase, and it cannot replace a screening mammogram. There is still a risk that it can miss breast cancer.”
He further explained, "Although CT Koning carries a risk of missing breast cancer, it can also yield false positives, leading to unnecessary anxiety for patients who must wait to learn that the findings are benign."

CNA Week, which starts on the Thursday of the second full week of June, is a time of celebration honoring the hard work of Certified Nursing Assistants. This year, it is held from June 13 to 19.
Certified Nursing Assistants began working under the Red Cross program during World War I and served alongside U.S. Army nurses. Hundreds of young women were trained to care for wounded soldiers in reserve, field, base, and civilian hospitals. The role has certainly evolved since that time.
Becoming a CNA is a major decision that contributes to the well-being of patients in need of compassionate care. CNAs play a crucial role in providing direct patient care and support in various healthcare settings.
Southwell salutes all of our CNAs!
