Are you stuck in a rut trying to decide what to make for dinner? It happens to everybody.

Every week it seems.

Sometimes you don’t need to go way off the rails and dive into something way out of your comfort zone (how about some African influenced curries from Mauritius?), you just need to make some small changes to really mix things up.

Like black garlic.

Black garlic is regular garlic that has been fermented and aged until it develops a very rich and smoky flavor that doesn’t resemble regular garlic at all! Its flavor has been described as sweet and sour, with tones of dark chocolate and aged balsamic. And you can use it just like roasted garlic! Add it to pasta, pizza, and cream sauces, or just spread it with butter on warm bread for a fantastic twist on garlic bread.

Monnette’s Market on Secor would like to take a moment to recognize our local farmers as the rest of us cruise through the middle of summer.

While we are all planning our summer vacations, enjoying long afternoons by the pool and having cookouts with friends and family, our farmers are up before dawn harvesting all of this incredibly fresh produce that all of us look so forward to this time of year. We drive past their farms all the time as we escape for the weekend or head out to see our grandparents or children on Sunday just to sit with them a little while.

Our farmers get no such luxury over these next warm and sunny weeks. We see them every day here at the Market backing in their trucks filled with the produce that they’ve worked so tirelessly on for months. And they can’t let up now, or all that work will be for nothing.

This Wednesday at Monnette’s on Secor, we will be having a wine tasting from 4-6! And you won’t want to miss this one! In honor of the Paris Olympic Games going on right now, we will be tasting three amazing wines from France!

Featuring…

Cicada’s Song rosé from Provence. Think you don’t like rosé wines? We don’t blame you. Most of them are overly sweet, overly fruity, and almost impossible to enjoy with food. But the rosés from Provence are ENTIRELY different: subtle, seductive, and laid back. These wines capture all of the sights, sounds and aromas that only summer gives you.

Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from Central France will open your palate to a whole new take from the Sauvignon Blanc’s that you’re used to drinking. The French Sauvignon Blancs are softer and more muted than their counterparts from New Zealand.

And finally, Chateau L’Amour Côtes de Bordeaux is the quintessential red wine that France is famous for. This bottle is bold enough to throw down with your summer barbecue, and somehow still light enough to drink year round.
