This weather has been allowing us all to get outside and I love it. However, increased time on our feet can increase aches and pains. Orthotics can be one means to provide relief by redistributing forces, supporting structures of the foot, and providing full contact sensory input. I examine your foot and provide you insight into the need for orthotics, customize orthotics, or adjust current orthotics.

It can be difficult to teach yourself how to contract the small muscles of the spine, the ones that matter the most when trying to reduce lumbar and sacral pain. This video has great instructions to help you "find" your core. The small muscles must be active and engaged before you can progress to heavy core exercise.

Our head is heavy!!!!!!! Our muscles surrounding the neck often get tight and painful when our small muscles of the neck do not have good endurance...you know....to hold up that head. People who have neck pain tend to get weaker necks over time. This is a key exercise to build endurance in your neck.

My colleague and I published this article in the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy about cadence retraining.
https://ijspt.scholasticahq.com/article/90909-a-one-session-gait-retraining-protocol-with-metronome-augmentation-increases-cadence-in-novice-and-recreational-runners
Cadence is how many steps you take per minute when you walk and run. Evidence suggests increasing a slow cadence may provide reductions in forces that our bodies experience when running. This two year project was a randomized controlled trial that demonstrated changing cadence is realistic for a recreational runner, specifically, when using a metronome. Is it the right intervention for everyone? No, however, for some runners, absolutely! Want to know how, give me a ring.
A One Session Gait Retraining Protocol with Metronome Augmentation Increases Cadence in Novice and Recreational Runners | Published in International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy By Angie Huber, Dave Verhoff. The purpose of this study was to determine if a pragmatic gait retraining protocol with metronome feedback would change recreational and novice runners' self selected cadence and biomechanics.
What is your new year's resolution?
I have an 11:30 AM available Friday. Text or call 419-303-0309 to book.

What is Mobile PT? I love my cozy clinic, however, I also take my care to the road when it is in the clients best interest. I think it is essential to see patients in the environments that create pain or activities that they are seeking to return to. It helps me provide education, modification and enhance outcomes! Where do I go? Patient's work space, training facilities, gyms, fields....
