Avian Breeding Center Keeper, Cynthia, shows us a day in the life of caring for our Flamingo chick! π£π¦©
The first Flamingo chick of the season hatched on June 17 and is being hand-reared off-exhibit for the first 60 days of life.
This ensures the chick receives the proper nutrients and care needed while also protecting it from larger counterparts in the Flamingo Key exhibit.
Guests can interact and learn more about our Flamingos with a behind the scenes tour. Book your tour today at https://www.toledozoo.org/education/tours
The Toledo Zoo recently hatched 13 King cobra snakes! ππ₯
Herpetology Department Area Manager, Nick, takes us behind-the-scenes to show the extensive process of successfully breeding and hatching King cobra eggs.
This is a great accomplishment for the Toledo Zoo and was made possible by our dedicated animal care team.
While the baby snakes are not on exhibit, we will continue to post updates on our social media. Stay tuned!

Asclepias tuberosa π΅οΈ
Of the native milkw**ds at our disposal, Asclepias tuberosa, also known as butterfly w**d, is a fan favorite!
Its charming orange flowers are impossible to miss; they can be found growing in several locations around Zoo grounds and gardens.
They are an extremely drought tolerant plant that grows well in a variety of soilsβ¦ even clay as long as it isnβt too waterlogged.
Butterfly w**d is a larval host plant for the monarch butterfly, and with a mature height of only two feet, itβs an excellent addition to butterfly gardens of any size.
For more great plants that thrive in tough gardens, check out our upcoming Plants for Problem Spots Garden Tour at https://www.toledozoo.org/gardens
