As she celebrates a lucky number seven years at her “one-in-a-million” job as an entertainment anchor/reporter for Good Day L.A. and living in her dream community of Toluca Lake, Amanda Salas is reflecting on how far she’s come in her personal and professional journey. “Waking up every single day in L.A., which has such a high and proud Hispanic population, and being one of the only Latina entertainment reporters in the city means a lot to me, and I will always use my voice to help with representation,” she says. On Sunday, Toluca Lake’s youngest residents enjoyed an exciting morning filled with games and activities at the family-friendly Kids’ Summer Fun event, sponsored by the Toluca Lake Homeowners Association, SRM Real Estate Group, Red Maple Cafe and Logix - Toluca Lake Branch. Attendees of all ages were treated to an array of breakfast items and snacks, participated in coloring and face painting, and jammed out to a live musical performance by The BeatBuds. We were happy to see this community event have an amazing turnout!
Toluca Lake residents kicked off the start of summer with a lively block party hosted by the Artinian Realty Group on Riverside Drive on Saturday. The community enjoyed live music, snacked on delicious food, cooled down with ice cream and refreshing cocktails, participated in fun-filled activities and much more. Local businesses also offered special deals and discounts, and prizes were raffled off throughout the event. It was wonderful to see everyone come together to celebrate the summertime!

Republic Pictures helped establish John Wayne as a Western lead early in his career, and he remained loyal to the small, Studio City-based B-movie powerhouse even after becoming a star in John Ford’s 1939 United Artists film Stagecoach. Built in 1941 in the shape of a barrel to attract passing motorists, Idle Hour has been a beloved North Hollywood fixture for several decades. After becoming an L.A. historic-cultural monument in 2010, restorers, using black-and-white photos, returned Idle Hour to its former glory and reopened it in 2015. The Toluca Lake Homeowners Association held their annual meeting on March 27 at Bodega Malbec, where new and longtime members alike gathered to reflect on the organization’s recent accomplishments and look ahead to goals for the coming year. While enjoying delicious appetizers and wine, the group welcomed incoming board members and thanked outgoing ones for their service, heard updates from TLHOA and its community partners (including the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council, the Toluca Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Toluca Lake Neighborhood Watch and Council District 2), and discussed neighborhood issues.
Assemblymember Laura Friedman is one of the biggest climate champions in the State Legislature, focusing much of her work on the intersection of transportation, sustainability and climate change. She hopes to replace Representative Adam Schiff in Congress and bring her fresh perspectives and fearless leadership on those issues and more to Washington, D.C. “I think we need environmental warriors to be in Congress, and that’s what I am,” she says.
