There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms over much of north central, east central and northeast Kansas. Thunderstorms may develop after 3 pm Wednesday (around a 40% chance) and could quickly become severe. Very large hail, damaging winds and even a tornado or two is possible. If storms form, they are expected to move north with the risk for severe weather continuing into the evening.
Just a helpful reminder π

Good to know! Always good to be prepared in case of an emergency!
This week is Kansas Severe Weather Preparedness week and each day we will highlight an aspect or event of severe weather this season. The highlight today is Preparedness. 2023 severe weather season across northeastern Kansas featured ten tornadoes, one microburst, several events with over 80 mph winds and very large hail?
Ask yourself what you would do in case of severe weather. Do you have multiple ways to receive alerts? Like on your phone and using a NOAA weather radio? Do you have adequate shelter & supplies? If you donβt have a basement, do you know what the lowest most central room in your home is, or if your housing community or complex has a shelter? Do you have a go-bag in your home and car? Visit https://www.weather.gov/safety/tornado-prepare to read about how you can prepare for a tornado
Please be advised of fire hazard in our local area.
Also, if you are a smoker then please know flicking cigarette butts out the car window π¬ is littering π― and can be a fire hazard π₯. Let's protect our environment π³ and wildlife π¦ by properly disposing of them in a designated ashtray β»οΈ.
Very high to extreme fire danger likely, both Sunday and Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Red Flag Warning for Shawnee County today.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
The county will see southwest winds 15 to 20 MPH with gusts of 25 to 30 MPH, then switching in the mid to late afternoon to northwest at 20 to 30 MPH with gusts of 35 to 40 MPH.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, therefore outdoor burning is not recommended.
