Yesterday 24 water warriors had a blast kayaking and testing the water quality of the Salinas River Lagoon. Getting down to the water was not easy due to the lack of access infrastructure along the Salinas River, but everyone was up for the adventure! We found nitrate levels at 6 parts per million, much more than the 1-2 ppm natural levels. High nitrate levels in the Salinas comes primarily from agricultural runoff, threatening the health of aquatic life and people. Stay tuned for more monitoring results and how we are working to protect the Salinas River! #swimmablesalinas #ilovethesalinasriver

This past Saturday we took families from Soledad and Greenfield to Elkhorn Slough to view wildlife & do water quality testing. A major thank you to @elkhornslough_org , @montereybayecotours and @thewahineproject for being our partners on this outdoor trip! It was fun to see baby seal pups and mom seals soak up the sun ☀️

Today is Giving Tuesday! Please consider supporting our outdoor education program connecting youth from underserved communities to the natural wonders of Monterey Bay. Your donation via www.montereycountygives.com/waterkeeper will be matched! We are grateful for your contribution. Every drop counts!

There’s nothing like starting the week with otter acrobatics!

Most know about the historic Monterey wharf, but Breakwater Cove is where it’s at for some zen and amazing views! (Not to mention sea lion and otter sightings)
