Amishey: Technology Simplified

Intel stock fell over 20% on Friday. Last week, they laid off 15,000 employees. Why?

One of the major reasons is that Intel's newest 13th and 14th generation CPU's (Central Procession Units) are faulty and are causing major issues for users.

If you just bought a new laptop with an Intel CPU (i5, i7, i9), you do not have to worry, as the issues lies more specifically with desktop PC's, and not laptops.

Tech Tip Tuesday: Secure Payment Methods

When you go to pay at the gas station or the grocery store, how do you do it?

These are things we often do by default, without really thinking about what the safest and most secure method it. Therefore, we are here to rank the safest ways to pay to help keep you secure:

1. Apple/Google Pay: These services use tokenization to protect your credit card number from being stolen during transactions, encrypt your data, and use passcode or biometric authentication to prevent fraud.

2. Tap-To-Pay: If you see somewhere on your card three curved lines that look like a sideways wi-fi symbol, that means you can tap the card against the POS (point-of-sale) device without inserting or swiping it. This system uses NFC (near field communication), which is the most secure way to pay with a physical card.

3. Chip Insert: While inserting a card into a POS system is more secure than swiping, it is slow and clunky and not as secure as tap-to-pay.

4. Swiping: This is the least secure way to pay with a card and it is never recommended to use this method. Buyers beware!

5. Cash: While using cash certainly has some undeniable benefits, it can be lost or stolen easily, which puts it at the bottom of our list.

As modern software continues to receive more updates, they tend to become much more resource/RAM hungry (looking at you Google Chrome).

If you or someone you know ever sees this image pop up when browsing the web, there is no reason to worry! You do not need to call anybody, you simply need to close the web browser you are using to clear the pop up. But what happens if the pop up does not allow you close your browser?

There's an easier way to close these browser pages within Windows itself by using Task Manager to 'End task' for the Microsoft Edge (or other) browser app process. Open Task Manager either by right-clicking the task bar and selecting it near the bottom of the list that appears or pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del keys together and selecting it there.

In the Task Manager window that appears, make sure the first 'Processes' tab near the top left is selected, then highlight Microsoft Edge app in the list below. Then click the 'End task' button at the lower right of the window or you may also right-click Microsoft Edge and select End task from there as well.
