The Freemasons of Towson’s Mt. Moriah Lodge Charitable Foundation Donates Over $8,000 to Four Baltimore County Public High Schools.
In late March, the Freemasons of Towson’s Mount Moriah Lodge # 116, acting through their Charitable Foundation, voted to grant initial funding, and pledged future sustaining support, to each of the organizations that operate food pantry and necessities rooms for the students in need at four area public high schools. The Mount Moriah Charitable Foundation donated an initial grant of $2,000 to: Loch Raven, Parkville, Towson, and Dulaney High Schools. Parkville High School’s program also was granted an additional $300 for initial start-up costs.
The Foundation Board President Gregory Jones, whose sons attended Loch Raven High and has a daughter currently attending Towson High School, said the Freemasons of Mount Moriah Lodge are ardent in acting upon their concern for children experiencing poverty, hunger, and homelessness. “We want the children that receive this help to know that they are important and are valued by the Freemasons of this community. We also challenge other social, civic, and fraternal organizations, including other Freemason Lodges, to make a sustained commitment to our local children in need.”
In crafting the grant The Foundation was careful to give recipient organizations prudent flexibility to use the funds to meet the individual needs of students directly on a case by case basis. The intent is the provision of necessities such as clothing, toiletries and educational supplies as well as augmenting food insecurity initiatives.
The Loch Raven Network, a non-profit organization assisting students in need at Loch Raven and Parkville High Schools, is receiving the donations for these two schools. Towson and Dulaney High Schools PTSA organizations are the administering recipients of those Freemason’s grants.
“We are thrilled with this financial commitment from the Towson Mt. Moriah Lodge to the programs at Loch Raven and Parkville High Schools,” said Laurie Taylor-Mitchell, President of the Loch Raven Network. “The sustained support from the Lodge means that we can stock our rooms for students in need knowing that the funds will be there. This is the kind of funding small non-profits dream of - sustained giving.” Caryn Putchat, the social worker at Loch Raven High School, commented, “We at Loch Raven High School are so appreciative of Mount Moriah Lodge’s generosity. Their tremendous contribution will make such a difference for our students in need. Their support, as well as that of the Loch Raven Network’s, gives us the confidence that we can help lessen the significant burden that homelessness and poverty have on students’ lives.”
