There's no cozier feeling than a crackling bonfire after a big day of adventure. ๐ฅ The perfect way to unwind and relax before settling in for a good night's rest! ๐
A misty morning on the Manistee ๐๐ถ
Weโre out here making friends! ๐ข๐ถ
Hi Crystalaire Families!
๐ธ A quick reminder about our approach to photography and social media now that our trips are on the move:
We know you might be curious how your camper is doing (and perhaps a bit jealous of all the cool things theyโre experiencing!) while theyโre on their trip. We totally get it โ camp FOMO is real! ๐ฒ๐ฃ๐โจ
You wonโt see any photos posted here of campers who are currently on a trip. This is for privacy and safety reasons, and also to help preserve the screen-free atmosphere we foster here at camp. We want campers to unplug and enjoy all that camp has to offer without wondering whether or how they might be showing up online.
If you have questions or concerns about your camper while theyโre on their trip, please donโt hesitate to reach out. Our staff is always happy to provide updates, pending cell service on the trail! We can be reached at 231-299-0005. ๐ (And don't worry, we always have an emergency communication device when exploring the backcountry!)
We take photos each trip to document our adventures. Photos will be posted to our Flickr account in the weeks following your camper's trip. You may also see photos of your camper posted here, on our website, or in our emails โจafterโจ their trip is over and throughout the year.*
We encourage you to take photos at drop off and pick-up and we welcome campers to pack a disposable camera so they can capture their own favorite moments from their trip to share with you once they are back home!
*Please note that we take special care to not share photos of campers who have โopted outโ of photography. If you have questions or special requests about your camper and you have not already noted your opt-out preference in your campersโ registration paperwork, please call the office at 231-299-0005.
We'll be chasing gorge-ous views like this all summer long! ๐โฐ
Want to join us? We've got a few spots remaining on our Manistee, Maintou, and Isle Royale trips!
Blue skies, cool breezes, and wide open trails are just a few of the reasons we โค๏ธ Northern Michigan summers. โ๏ธ๐๐ฅพ
Happy Earth Day! ๐ Please remember to treat nature with kindness, respect, and care. ๐ And always, always, always leave no trace!
Did you know you can see a shipwreck from South Manitou Island?! We'll learn all about the Francisco Morazan shipwreck and the Manitou Passage during our hike around the island! โ๏ธ
We find all kinds of cool stuff on our adventures but we especially love finding Petoskey stones! ๐๐ชจ
We're so excited to explore the outdoors with you this summer, but we're โจextraโจ excited for you to meet your fellow campers. You're going to meet so many amazing new adventure buddies on your trip!
Get ready for some riverbank camping! ๐ถโบ๏ธ If you're joining us on one of our Manistee River trips this summer, you'll be enjoying gorgeous campsites like this. Just imagine curling up in your sleeping bag after a fun day on the water and hearing the sounds of the river lull you into a deep sleep! ๐ด
Every ounce counts when you're backpacking, but we always make room for a deck of cards! ๐
Isle Royale ๐
All smiles on South Manitou Island! ๐ We're running 7 (!) separate trips to South Manitou this summer! Wanna join us? See all our trip dates and check out the trip itinerary at crystalaireadventures.com/south-manitou .
We love wildlife, but prefer that our furry friends keep a safe distance from our campsites. ๐ป๐ซ๐ To keep us and critters safe, we pack all of our food and scented items in bear canisters and store them far from our tents and cooking area when not in use.
You truly never know what you'll find at the end of your hike! ๐งโจ
The best way to see the Manistee is by canoe! ๐ถ Explore all the twists and turns of this amazing waterway on our Manistee River Adventure. This is one of our most popular trips -- and with good reason! You'll find us paddling, swimming, camping, and hiking all the way down the river on this 5-night excursion. Check it out and register to join us this summer at crystalaireadventures.com/manistee-river.
One of the best things about backpacking is that you get to bring your kitchen with you wherever you go! ๐๐๐ฅ Our food, spices, pots, pans, and utensils all get packed up right alongside our tents, clothing, and safety gear. When we get to our campsite each night, everything gets unloaded and sorted so we can cook up a tasty meal!
Mountains and trees as far as the eyes can see. ๐ฒโฐ
Our South Manitou trips are filling up fast! If you're still interested in signing up for summer 2024, give us a call asap so we can reserve your camper's spot!
These 3-day mini adventures can be done as add-on trips to your camper's session at or , or done on their own. Either way, it's the perfect opportunity to try backpacking and get a taste for the Crystalaire Adventures experience!
Looking for more adventure in 2024? We've got you covered! Whether you're a seasoned backpacker or a first time hiker, we'll get you matched up with the perfect trip. Check out our summer schedule or shoot us a message so we can help you take steps toward your goals! ๐ฅพ๐ฒ๐
Cruising our way right on in to 202oar! ๐ถ Happy canoe year!
(And yes, we know they're technically paddles, but "paddle" doesn't rhyme with anything so let us have this one, ok?)
๐ฅ๐ฅ๐
Current mood: daydreaming about warm summer evenings and picture-perfect campsites. ๐
The way back down is always worth the climb!

๐ North Manitou Island Adventure ๐ฅพ
Trip A: June 16th - 21st, 2024
Trip B: June 30th - July 5th, 2024
Pack your bag and lace up those hiking boots! Join us to explore the wild beauty of Northern Michigan on a 6-day backpacking adventure on North Manitou Island! This classic Great Lakes adventure is one of our most popular trips and fills quickly each season.
North Manitou is the wilder of the two Manitou Islands, offering participants a more secluded and primitive backcountry camping experience than our South Manitou Island trip. Our backpacking adventure will take us through sand dunes and meadows full of wildflowers, with plenty of time to enjoy a daily dip in the lake and some sunbathing on the beach!

Our Story
Evolving since 1920, Crystalaire has worked with groups of young people of all experience levels. Our expeditions are built around community involvement: every trip participant is included in planning and preparation for the trip, deciding activities, leading discussions, and carrying out the daily work of outdoor living.
Through boating, backpacking, biking and more, we help campers foster a sense of belonging to the rest of the world.
We want you discover what it feels like to sleep out under the stars, come across a moose on a woodland trail, taste pancakes cooked over red hot coals, or sit around a campfire telling stories with a group of friends. We believe that these things can contribute directly to life outside of a wild context, and give you a chance to figure out who you want to become. Using the rugged and beautiful terrain of the North Woods (and beyond) as our classrooms we build fun and engaging โtrip familiesโ that help everyone involved gain self-awareness, confidence, and a place to be true to themselves.
