Spring (Vernal) Equinox
March 20th, 11:33 a.m.

Derived from the Latin, meaning “equal night”, this is the time when day and night are nearly the same length of time, 12 hours. This is the official start of spring and represents many “yang” activities, reflecting the ascending and active nature of spring. Young plants begin their push from their “yin” or winter slumber. An ancient Chinese medical text, The Inner Classic, describes spring creating wind and is associated with the Wood element, governing the Liver and Gallbladder. This is the season to attend to these organs and do some spring cleansing. The diet should be the lightest of the year, concentrating on young, leafy greens, which help nourish and cleanse the liver during this season. Too many rich, heavy foods clog the liver, resulting in digestive issues, mood swings, tendon problems and allergies. Therefore, acupuncture treatments to soothe the liver and strengthen the spleen and lungs can help reduce these episodes. Additionally, we can provide a personal spring diet plan to bring about a healthier you. Make an appointment today for your Spring Tune-Up today. Spring Tune-Up Acupuncture package of 5 for $325.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Tips on How to Eat Healthy this Winter

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is a time for rest and cultivating energy. Winter is a good time to focus on flowing practices, which can help maintain Qi flow and bring warmth. You can also increase warmth, health, and balance by paying attention to your winter eating habits.

An article called "6 Tips For Healthy Winter Eating According To Traditional Chinese Medicine" shares some eating tips that will be beneficial for you throughout the winter season:

"To best keep our bodies in balance, it is important to eat according to the season. In addition to eating seasonal, local foods that grow during this time, such as root veggies and winter greens, here are 6 tips to keep in mind when deciding what to eat this winter:

1. Stick with warm foods.

We want to eat foods to counter the cold and keep our bodies warm. It is healthiest to consume very little raw foods like salads and an abundance of fruit, and avoid foods with cold temperatures…

2. Satisfy your sugar cravings.

For most of us, a craving for sweets here and there is inevitable. In Chinese medicine, sweet is the flavor of the spleen and in moderation can be nourishing to the system.

However, in excess, sweets can cause damage, overload the metabolism, and in Chinese medicine terms, may harm the spleen qi and lead to dampness that can slow down metabolism and clog up our pipes…

3. Include healthy fats.

Satisfy winter cravings for fats by eating healthy fats instead of fried or packaged and processed foods. Add whole fat organic coconut milk to soups, stews, and curries…

4. Fermented vegetables!

To help digest fats, eat sauerkraut or other fermented vegetables, such as kimchi, pickles, or kombucha with your meals…

5. Take it slow.

Winter is the time to eat foods that cook slowly for a long time using low heat. This allows the food to break down sufficiently, making it easier for the body to digest during the cold months when we don't have abundant heat in the environment to speed up our metabolism…

6. Nourish those kidneys.

Because the kidneys are the organ of the season, it is important to keep them nourished and warm throughout the winter, which in turn helps to keep our energy reserves strong…"

covid vaccines administered - Google Search 05/11/2021

The FDA has now approved the Covid-19 vaccine by Pfizer to be administered to children ages 12 to 15. We would like to give some additional information for parents out there trying to make a decision. The reality is that children of this age group have an extremely low risk of serious injury or death if infected with Covid-19. The CDC reports out of 4,408,512 cases of Covid-19, only 282 deaths have been reported in ages 0-17 years. This equates to 0.0064% chance of death.
To compare this with other odds of death:

100 times more likely to die in a motor vehicle (0.97%)

10 times more likely to die from drowning (0.088%)

Similar chance of dying from a dog attack (0.0012%)

In considering the vaccine for your children, one should weigh the risk/benefit ratio. Based on the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) put out by the Federal Government Health and Human Services division, a total of 3,362 persons have died after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine. This equates to a 0.075% chance of death after receiving the vaccine. Based on the data, the risk of your child being injured after receiving the vaccine is higher than if he or she contracted Covid-19.

We are not anti-vaxxers here. We are about looking logically at the data and making an educated decision. Deciding to genetically modify your children is a tough decision. To date, no studies have been completed to determine the long-term effects of this vaccine on fertility, cancers and other auto-immune diseases. We want all parents to have the information they need to make this decision.

A great study out of Spain showing vitamin D's effect in treating patients with Covid-19.
Admitted patients with Covid-19 were given either no vitamin D or 21,280 IU of vitamin D followed by 10,640 IU of vitamin D on days 3 and 7. Only 2% of vitamin D group went to ICU versus 50% of Non-vitamin D group heading to the ICU.
This may be the reason why Texas and Mississippi (with no restrictions) are doing much better than Michigan. So get outside, get some sun or supplement with vitamin D3. If you have questions, give us a call.
