PaddleFit Certified SUP Coach.
Dragonflies are my favorite! 🤩
This beautiful friend decided to hang out in the truck while we paddled. 💕
Another great duet lesson. 💕
This duo picked up quickly & had to deal with some challenging wind gusts 💨 to get back to shore. Such a privilege to coach first time paddlers & see them put it into practice & have a blast doing it.
And all that during an early morning lesson. 🤙🏼
Well done ladies! 👏🏼
Over the river and through the… downtown 😆🤙🏼
So many great and unexpected places to paddle in Traverse City.
Merry Christmas 🎄💕🤙🏼

Perfect day on West Bay at Bowers Harbor.w.hall
Gorgeous October day with the lake to ourselves for almost the entire paddle. 10K+ looking at the nearly peak Fall colors. Gotta love NoMI.
📸
Gorgeous day, but today’s paddle was hard. Part of it may have been that I was too hot in my wetsuit. (Note to self on the next few paddles this week - just wear leggings & booties 🥵). And, part of it may have been that I didn’t get great quality sleep & that I did a ton of work on our garage this weekend. All of that adding up to making me feel less than stellar today.
Some days are like that & we need to just push through. (Not suggesting you push through if you’re legitimately sick or injured - no!) But sometimes we do need to tap into mental toughness & do our best where we’re at. And, not label it a bad training either. It was a good training in spite of the fact I didn’t feel at my best.
I think there can be lessons in this for us to discern whether we need to rest or whether it’s okay to go ahead & do the thing we need to do, even though it may not be at the “level” we want it to be or feel like. We can learn something every time & grow from that.
Happy Fall! Every season is paddle season! 🍁
Training paddle today in the cold & rain. 🌧
(No this is not a post about what a bad a** I am for paddling in this or a complaint post. 😆)
Sharing this b/c training in different conditions regularly has really been of benefit to me. I feel like I have greatly improved my ability to read the wind & water.
The two are not always sympatico. For example, today sometimes the wind was blowing hard but the water was still flat. It still affected my stroke & keeping the board straight b/c it was blowing against my body & the board. I also encountered upwind, downwind conditions, as well as side chop. Conditions changed at different areas of the lake. Learning how to handle these varied conditions is crucial for safety as well as performance in a race.
If you are a recreational paddler & looking to improve your paddle skills, I highly recommend practicing in varied conditions (not dangerous ones like lightning or high winds you aren’t able to handle). The more you practice in conditions you may not consider favorable on a lake that you know well & can stay relatively close to shore, the better you’ll be when the wind or weather changes on you. Especially if you have a climate like us where the weather can change on a dime - you need to be prepared.
And of course, always dress appropriately & have a leash & PFD. 💕✌🏼🤙🏼
Traverse City brought home lots of wins last weekend. ☺️
Everyone on our TC team made it to the podium! To say we were stoked is an understatement.
So grateful for beautiful weather & water conditions that made it a more pleasant challenge. 😆
Most of all we’re thankful for the awesome people we have the privilege of paddling with . Great competitors, but even better community.
Thank you to everyone who helped us get here:

It’s all about community. 🤙🏼
Yes, many of us race, but it’s about lifting each other up, bringing positive vibes, the joy of the sport, learning & growing.
So grateful to be able to share the stoke with great people. We welcome you to our community paddles. If you’re a local or in town visiting, bring your board & your smile. Every Thursday until… TBD. 😉
Let’s talk leashes…
(Please scroll through pics to see the different options.)
🛟Leashes are the most important safety accessory you can have when you SUP, besides your PFD. Why?
🛟They keep you attached to your board, which is your main flotation device.
🛟Situational awareness is always key. There are different leashes for different situations.
- The coil leash is the best for SUP because it sits on your board.
- The straight leash is typically used for surf & SUP surf so your board won’t spring back at you. If all you have is a straight leash, you can use that for flat water SUP as well.
- Finally, the quick release leash is typically used for rivers or rapids - essentially fast moving water where there is a lot of debris (rocks, trees, etc) in the water. However, you can use this leash in flat water or mild surf as well.
🛟Ankle or calf leash options are a matter of personal preference. Neither is better than the other.
🛟The main point is: Always wear a leash. It is an excellent preemptive safety measure & an inexpensive investment. Many SUP companies & shops will even include one with a board purchase.

Great lesson this morning with two ladies brand new to SUP. They rocked it!
I forgot to get pics of them on the water. 😳
But couldn’t have been a more perfect day to paddle - especially for beginners - gorgeous calm water.
🤙🏼We invite you to our Thursday night community paddle at 6:30pm. All ages & levels welcome.
⭐️Note a different location than usual this week - Bowers Harbor on Old Mission Peninsula.
✌🏼This week we have 2 groups:
- distance paddle from Bowers Harbor to Power Island & back
- shorter paddle staying close to the harbor
🤝We always socialize après paddle, so you’re welcome to join us then too. We love welcoming new paddle friends into the fold. 😊
Kiddos and pups paddle too!
Paddling is one of our favorite family activities. 🥰
We would love to help your family learn the basics so this can be one of your favorite family activities too.

🌊Looking to upgrade to a race board, but new to this board category? Are you a lighter weight paddler looking for a lower volume, faster board that still has great stability?
🌊If so, this is the board for you. We have one brand new Infinity Blackfish Candice Series available. It is a 12’6” x 27” - great for the entry level racer or just someone who wants a versatile board with faster glide. This board can handle flat water to surf & turns on a dime.
🌊The one in the pics is the board we have used to paddle & race on. It rides like a dream & is super stable. Our 9 yr old is able to handle it well also.
Contact us for a demo. Link in bio. 🤙🏼
Would you like to paddle on this gorgeous inland lake? This pic was taken at sunrise 🌅 which is the best time to experience the peace, serenity & nature this lake has to offer. I got to see this little buddy this morning. I believe it’s a painted turtle. I also saw loons, birds, & fish.
We are now offering tours of Silver Lake in Traverse City. Booking available online for that soon. In the meantime, give us a call if you’d like to explore with us. 😊🤙🏼
