If your Honda is more than 10 years old, you should be on the lookout for ignition cylinder failures! The unique design of Honda keys and ignitions tend to fail after 10-15 years of use. This is a specialized lock which requires specific tools and knowledge to remove from your car and repair. JD Williams Locksmith Service is proud to offer this service.

A mobile locksmith can do this job better than an auto shop or dealership because:
1) your mobile locksmith comes to you. When your ignition won't turn, your car can't start. Mobile service saves you the cost of a tow!
2) you can still use the same keys for your ignition and doors. They will almost always be different keys than before, but they'll operate all the locks!

Today is the day to test your car door lock! When you come home from work today, instead of unlocking your car with the unlock button, test the key blade in the lock. If it doesn't work, call JD Williams Locksmith Service! You don't want to wait until the fob battery dies to discover you cannot unlock your car.

Car door locks often jam up from dirt and debris. When they're not used, this builds up to the point it blocks all movement. You should operate these locks regularly, just the same as you should "exercise" your water shut-off valve. It's a quick and easy fix, when you don't *need* it right now!

Servicing your car lock is quick, so you'll only be charged a service call. Since I will only ever charge one service call per visit, you can get a better value by asking me to add another task while I'm on site. House, padlock, basic cabinet keys $3-$7
Commercial business keys $3-$20
Travel Trailer keys $5-$12
Non-transponder car keys $15-$22.50
Transponder car keys (1996 and later, depending on model) $140-$175
Remote-Head keys $195 and up
Smart keys for push to start cars $250 and up.

Pricing for car keys varies dramatically. For an accurate price estimate, I need to know the year, make, model, and sometimes I'll also have follow up questions for you.

FAQ Friday: My door won't close correctly! I'm not sure if the issue is with the lock, or with the door itself.

FAQ Friday! My car has a push button ignition, and my key battery died. Now my car won't start. Help!

Every vehicle with a push-to-start ignition has a different way to addressing this situation. The car manufacturers know this can happen, and you may not be in a space with access to a spare battery. The owner's manual is the best resource to find out exactly what to do for your vehicle.

For example, if you have a Dodge "Keyless Go" system, you can easily remove the push button (it pulls straight out with almost no force required) to reveal a standard ignition switch.

If you cannot find the information in your owner's manual or still need help, give me a call! I do not guarantee 24/7 emergency availability but I do take all short notice jobs whenever I can!

FAQ Friday! My key is worn down. Now I have to jiggle it a lot to get my door open. How can you fix this?

Usually, this problem is solved with a new key. Sorry hardware store, a simple duplicate key won't work. We'll start by cutting a new key from code, to the original factory dimensions. I cut automotive keys from code whenever possible, which is the vast majority of the time. Household and office keys are a little different, but can still be code cut rather easily.
