Trotwood Fire Department
Welcome to the official page of Trotwood Fire. Trotwood Fire was established in 1999.
Crews took time today to go over VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search) training. This is a technique firefighters use for search and rescue operations during a fire. We then wrapped the day up with โscramble drills.โ
Second platoon crews are out taking full advantage of the BEAUTIFUL weather today. They are working on pump operation and water flow on the new rescue engine.
Crews made time today to go on a walkthrough at a new business in the city. Crews then were present for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Flyght Academy. We had a great time spending the day with the people in our community!

Trotwood Fire Department Unveils New Rescue Engine
Trotwood, OH โ 06/28/2024 โ The Trotwood Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of a new Rescue Engine to its fleet. This state-of-the-art Rescue Engine was acquired through the generous support of a 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) along with city matching funds.
The new Rescue Engine is a critical upgrade for the department, enhancing our ability to respond to emergencies with improved efficiency and effectiveness. This modern apparatus will safely transport all the necessary tools and equipment required for various emergencies, and it features a larger water supply, which is especially crucial for the rural areas of Trotwood.
Chief Haacke expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, stating, "As our fleet ages, the new Rescue Engine will save us thousands of dollars in repairs, which is increasingly important as expenses continue to rise each year. This investment not only improves our operational capabilities but also ensures the safety and well-being of our community."
The new Rescue Engine is designed to replace two older pieces of equipment, allowing our team to accomplish tasks faster, safer, and more efficiently. This consolidation of resources represents a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of service to the residents of Trotwood.

Crews were back at it again with our monthly training on vertical ventilation training. Our training was located at Station 72 using our roof simulator. Crews discussed vertical ventilation, and how it may be used on an emergency incident.
Crews found time today to train on vertical ventilation. This training was performed on our roof simulator behind Station 72. Vertical ventilation is used to release heat, smoke, and gases to make better conditions for crews inside of a structure.
Today crews had the opportunity to train in the โflashover trailer.โ This trailer was provided to us by the Ohio Fire Academy, and is a valuable resource in teaching crews about fire behavior, and how to identify a flashover in a fire.
Crews were able to find some time for a walkthrough at a local warehouse. Walkthroughs are a great way for crews to familiarize themselves with the buildings within the city.
This week, 3 Full-Time Firefighters attended a rope rescue operation class!
The class included 40 hours of instruction and training. Members learned many skills including basic knots and anchor systems, some advanced knots and anchoring as well as repelling, self repelling, patient packaging, lowering and hauling systems.
We would like to thank Huber Heights Fire Division for hosting the class, members who attended are excited to share their new knowledge with duty crews!
Crews start their annual hydrant testing this week. Duty crews will test EVERY SINGLE hydrant in the city. Please give crews space to work if you see them on the side of the road. Also if you notice a slight discoloration in your water let your water run until clear again.
Thank you to Mark Johnston from the Christ hospital health network out of Cincinnati for coming and teaching duty crews about LVADs (Left Venntricular Assist Device) these devices are quite uncommon and it is a great refresher on how to care for patients with these specific devices.
