Yup, the world may seem like a crazy place right now. But remember that whatever is going on “out there”, doesn’t have to impact “in here”. Fear and hate create a virus in the nervous system that impacts you on all levels of your health. So be careful with what you surround yourself with right now. Pace yourself. Because it isn’t going to get more quiet and it isn’t going to get more calm. You are magnificent and there is immense power in what you feel, believe and in the stories that you tell yourself. The more shocking the story, the deeper the hit and the more profound the impact. You have all the tools; no outsourcing needed. Get back to the basics that your nervous system requires to feel safe - nutritious food, deep sleep, movement, time in nature, stillness, and sunshine. We live from the inside out! Meaning that what we believe is what we see. So….Watch your thoughts and choose new ones if they aren’t serving you. Our thoughts create our experience of the world. New thoughts create new experiences and a new story of the life that you are living.

Birdsong acts as a safety signal for our nervous system ! Healing takes place when we feel safe and birds only sing when there are no predators around. This is why birdsong can be so healing. It reminds us that we are safe!

We live in a culture of “busy”. And I get it! I’ve been the person running errands between patients and creating the never ending to-do list as a distraction. But the truth is, that living with chronically high cortisol impedes our healing. It perpetuates most disease states and it robs us of the moment. In a culture of instant gratification, we forget that the things that really matter actually take time. Building a relationship Developing a skill Cooking a good meal Creating art These take time. So does healing!

Did you know that blue light can wake up even the blind? (I didn’t!!) That’s because when light enters the eye, it stimulates cells that contain something called melanopsin. Previously we thought that only rod & cone cells were contained in the retina, but we now know that a new type of cell (intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells) are also present and the melanopsin inside them responds to light. They have nothing to do with vision! So our eyes are important sensors of our external environment and blocking blue (and green light) at night helps to orient our bodies in time and space. There’s a lot of talk about ice baths, cold plunges and chilly showers. And while all of these are wonderful, you don’t have to start there necessarily. You can begin more gently and you can simply start by getting outside into the elements. Cold exposure regulates our nervous system, boosts immunity and increases our metabolism! One study showed that one month of mild cold exposure resulted in a 42% increase in BAT aka brown adipose tissue and a 10 % increase in fat metabolic activity! Unlike white fat, brown fat helps keep you warm and increases your metabolism. Some research suggests that just 2 hours of exposure each day to temperatures around 66°F (19°C) may be enough to turn recruitable fat brown. That’s really not all that cold is it? So if you need another reason to get outside, then regulating your metabolism is a darn good one. ❄️ Jenna Tasker CenterPeace

It’s can’t always be summer. But you can use the seasons to maximize your hormones. Summer is for making Vitamin D. Now it’s time to make melatonin. This hormone reduces inflammation, enhances cellular clean up. It’s anticancer. So sleep. Turn off the lights. Recharge and go within. Jenna Tasker
