Have you ever wondered why a team like the Dodgers is so successful?
They seem to make all the right moves, bring in the right people, and develop the best talent.
To do this it takes a team approach from high level individuals that all have the ability to communicate their knowledge and expertise among themselves.
Now imagine if you could take the same concepts the Dodgers use and apply them to your team, regardless of level.
The World Pitching Congress brought this scenario together for everyone.
Here we get to listen to the collaboration between elite coaching talent from the Dodgers Pitching Coach, Mark Prior and their Director of Player Performance, Brandon McDaniel.
Mark brings the unique perspective of someone that was once believed to have the perfect mechanics only to have an injured plagued, shortened career. Now that he’s the pitching coach he can use what he learned in the past to help shape the future.
Brandon continues to lead the charge for helping the annually impressive Dodgers performance numbers.

IT'S THAT TIME!
Dr. White got the privilege of presenting virtually at Bridge the Gap this weekend. Bridge the Gap is a baseball conference (normally held in southern California) that brings pitching coaches and performance specialists together to maximize potential in the baseball athlete.
Dr. White was on the Rapsodo podcast talking about everything related to pitching performance and the use of technology in rehab and prehab.
The new is LIVE 🎧 👀 Most people view technology through the lens of performance, but in this episode, Tyler White of Gestalt Performance joins Seth and BP to discuss the role can play in injury prevention and rehabilitation🔥 Listen here ➡ https://rapsodo.buzzsprout.com/992224/5989834
"As the industry shifts to creating more hybrid roles, which can more effectively utilize the skills and abilities of their staff, we'll see more of this unique positions pop up. Those that don't adapt to this quickly will be behind, and those that refuse to adapt will stay behind."

❗️Research Breakdown❗️
"Softball pitching mechanics and shoulder injuries: a narrative review" by Minetos et al
CONCLUSION
Maximum shoulder compression/distraction forces during the windmill pitch have been shown to be comparable to those experienced during the baseball overhand throw. This changes the narrative that the windmill pitch isn't stressful on the arm.
INTERPRETATION
The forces on the shoulder in the softball windmill pitch are comparatively similar to the stress from the overhead baseball pitch. This puts the pitcher at risk of rotator cuff, labral, and bicep tendon problems.
This information proves that softball pitchers need to be serious about their strength training and arm care routines to make sure they're doing everything in their power to prevent overuse injuries.
SOMETHING TO CHEW ON
It's not uncommon for the best pitcher on a softball team pitch 3-4 games in a big tournament with each game throwing anywhere from 80-100 pitches. That runs the potential at up to 400 pitches in 1 weekend. Does this sound like a good idea if you're considering the long-term health of this pitcher's arm? Probably not...
But... I do believe that the leash on a softball pitcher can be longer in terms of the number of pitches and frequency of starts IF that pitcher takes good care of their arm and body and also has a great training routine focused on core, hip, and shoulder health.
❗️RESEARCH BREAKDOWN❗️
"Fastball Velocity and Elbow-Varus Torque in Professional Baseball Pitchers" by Slowik et al
CONCLUSION
"When comparing 2 professional baseball pitchers, higher velocity may not necessarily indicate higher elbow-varus torque due to the confounding effects of pitcher specific differences (eg. detailed anthropometrics and pitcher mechanics.) However, within an individual pitcher, higher ball velocity was strongly associated with higher elbow-varus torque."
INTERPRETATION
The level of stress from a specific fastball velocity is not equal for each individual. Someone's body structure, as well as their mechanics, can be major factors in how their body absorbs stress and produces force.
SOMETHING TO CHEW ON
Just because an individual's fastball velocity increased doesn't necessarily mean that their level of stress increases as well. If they throw 84 with bad mechanics and they clean up their body and their movement and now they're throwing 92 there valgus stress could potentially be less due to a better kinematic sequence. This highlights the importance of taking care of your body and how it moves.
Something that needs to be considered this year.
If things appear out of hand, we shouldn’t blame anyone.
A repost and a good reminder as we get back into baseball at the professional level and continue to ramp up at the high school/college level.
We need to take care of ourself and makes sure we’re preparing our body and warming up properly before, during, and after practice and games.
Remember to download our dynamic warmup ebook for free at the link in our bio.

Our Story
The goal at Gestalt Performance is to use cutting-edge science and rehabilitation protocols to extend athletic longevity and improve skill, strength, and athletic performance.
Our rehabilitation and strength training process will significantly improve performance and injury reduction in all sports, but our current passion is driven by the epidemic of arm injuries in throwers.
The latest research is showing that these surgeries, particularly the Tommy John surgery, are being done a majority of the time on teenagers. It’s not uncommon for this surgery to be done athletes as young as 13.
We know that it’ll probably be impossible to eliminate these injuries, but if we can put a massive dent in them by identifying risk factors and working towards creating better movement and stability throughout the body then we’re on the right track.
