A Place To Grow Farm
We grow plants, goats, horses, chickens and of course, our children.
We want to be good stewards of our land and to protect the wildlife. No herbicides have been used on this land since we bought it in 2017 and with that along with all of the other changes we’ve made it’s so rewarding to watch the population of deer and turkey growing each year.
It is a great day. We moved the bees into their new homes today. Plus it is World Bee Day.
Taking orientation fights to get used to their new home!!
Released our first 2 bee hives on our farm today! So excited to add honey to our farm crops!! Thank you L M Orchard Bees
It’s finally baby season at our house!!!
Spent the day inoculating 25 mushroom logs. In a few months we’ll have yummy mushrooms!
A beautiful drive around the farm this morning. Great way to start our day. We saw about 10 juvenile turkeys!
I’m SO excited! Guess what kind of eggs arrived today?!?!?
Last night we finished picking up all of our hay bales out of the field. We were afraid it would get rained on since it was raining a short distance away. I was so proud to see Michael working so hard! It is exhausting to pick up a couple hundred 75 pound bales and stack them 6 high on the trailer but he just buckled down and went to work. He has such a great work ethic and I know he’ll accomplish big things someday! I felt like I did a great job driving the tractor and truck. At least I can do that part, lol!
We had a great weekend at the Boon Companion Dairy Goat Show in Sedalia, Mo. It was a special show with 4 judges in 4 different rings so that gave everyone more opportunities to show off their animals! We felt so fortunate to have one of our does (Wingwood Cool Aloe Vera) get Grand Champion under 2 different judges and one of them gave her Best of Breed. This gave her the last 2 legs toward her permanent Championship, (getting a dry leg as a junior) and she is now designated as a permanent champion!! In two other rings, we brought in one of our favorites (Wingwood TBL Ashura) as a Champion Challenger and she also was awarded with a “Best of Breed”under 2 different judges. So exciting! Along with his fantastic job handling and showing off our goats, our dairy partner, Levi also had a great weekend with his girls, especially his Alpine (A Million Reasons). We were so proud and happy for him, too!!! It turned out to be a great show!
He just gets cuter every day.
We will always treat our animals humanely and give them whatever they need! Their health and comfort comes first! We are very careful about antibiotic withdrawal times and we test each batch of milk before we make cheese.
When people say they will only eat “antibiotic free” meat, I would love to show them this picture. How would you feel if you had a case of pink eye and didn’t go to the doctor to get medicine to make it better? I would assume the burning in the eye would be quite painful. The same is true for animals.
•
One of my calves had pink eye, and I (the doctor) gave him a spray in his eye and an antibiotic to help heal his infection. If we can take antibiotics when we are sick, why can’t we expect our animals to do the same?
•
This is the first time this animal has ever been given an antibiotic, and hopefully it’s the last. But if I didn’t treat him knowing he had a bacterial infection in his eye, he would suffer in pain for a few weeks, completely loose vision out of that eye, and potentially loose the entire eye if the infection got bad enough. That’s a better end result than giving an antibiotic to heal the eye in a few days? I would beg to differ.
•
You see, since he was given a shot, that does not mean that there will be antibiotics in his meat. Every single antibiotic has a withdrawal period on the label. After the minimum withdrawal days have gone by, the medicine will be completely out of his system and his body will be antibiotic free. ALL animals are antibiotic free because of required withdrawal periods, and every animal that enters a processing facility is tested before butcher to make sure there is no antibiotics in their system. If there is, the animal is rejected and will not be butchered.
•
Pink eye is a very contagious disease and can cause many issues this time of the year. Luckily, we have only had a few calves who have gotten it, but if we didn’t treat those few animals it could potentially spread like wild fire into the rest of the herd. And that is NOT a good day if that would happen.

Happy day 2, little one!!
I found a tiny surprise when I got home tonight! He’s perfect!!
Yum!!!
We hatched some baby chicks today! SO cute!!! Isabel Cuckoo Orpingtons. Eggs shipped in from Texas.
We are happy to report that our whole herd was blood tested last week and once again, the whole herd is negative for CAE, Brucellosis and Johnes Disease. All goats are normal for G6S.
Happy Easter!!!
Coming home from up north. Excited about the new editions. More to come soon. BlissBerry Dairy Goats
We are getting prepared for kidding season. So much work ahead. This is from years past. Too much cuteness in one place.
We are very excited about this pairing.
J&M Hideaway Rhinestone Cowgirl has been ultrasound confirmed AI bred to Lakeshore Belmont Stakes. Cowgirl is pending CH. Her accomplishments include Missouri State Fair Champion and Best Nubian Udder. She was 9th place as a 6 year old at the 2022 ADGA National Show. Thank you J&M Hideaway Farm
Belmont Stakes brings the strength and height that we are looking for and are grateful to LakeShore Nubians for sharing their genetics.
A beautiful morning. Looking out the bedroom window to see nature at her finest. This time of year is what I always remember. The glows from the clouds with the crisp air and heavy dews. The animals love it too, running and playing.
We are so excited about our breeding plans for this year. Here is an updated list. Please let us know if you want to add an A Place To Grow nubian to your herd.
Another first for us at the IDGA Iowa Spring Classic was that Wingwood Farm Flyin Adeline recieved a Grand Champion and Best of Breed in a ring this past weekend. She has been a goat that is fun to watch and we feel she is growing into a special goat. A big thank you goes out to Wingwood Farm and Fauna. She is a doe to watch for in the years to come. (These pictures are from the weekend before in Sedalia)
This past weekend the IDGA Iowa Spring Classic 4 ring diary goat show was held. A big thank you goes out to Levi Campbell for taking the nubians along on the trip. The big news for us was that J&M Hideaway Rhinestone Cowgirl, at 6 years of age, won two Grand Championships and two Best of Breed. With those wins she finally becomes a permanent champion and gets her CH. Needless to say we felt very blessed to add her to our herd as a kid. We have watched her grow and she is only getting better with age. Thank you J&M Hideaway Farm for this opportunity. ( this picture is from the weekend before in the show at Sedalia)
We want to thank the Boon Companions Show-Me stars goat show for putting on a wonderful show in Sedalia, MO. We were able to see old friends and start the show season off with a bag. Ring 3 on Sunday put 4 of our goats into the championship line up. Aged doe J&M Hideaway Rhinestone Cowgirl, 4 year old Blissberry RH Valeidoscope, 2 year old Wingwood Farm Tbl Ashura, 2 year old, Wingwood Farm Flyin Adeline.
This pretty girl was grand champion and best of breed in 3 out of 4 shows this weekend!! We got all 3 of the legs needed to earn her a championship! We have heard of people accomplishing this in one weekend but we never imagined that we would do it!!! So much fun!! Great start to our show season!!
So lucky to have this beautiful creek on our farm!
