Brian Henry attended the May State Bar of Michigan Real Property Law Section meeting. Each month, the Section reviews pending litigation impacting real estate. During the discussion of bills HB 5630 and HB 5631, Brian shared an analysis conducted by Orlans PC attorneys Regina Slowey, Caleb Shureb and Sogol Plagany. The analysis provided the RPLS with recommendations and feedback on the current bills.
Brian Henry and Pamela Weiss enjoyed participating in the Ohio County Treasurers Conference in Columbus, OH. They collaborated with more than 40 Treasurers and offered recommendations for cost-effective improvements to billing and legal notices.

Senior Executive Counsel Brian Henry enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones at the “Trending in CRE 2024” program hosted by the Michigan Chapter of the Commercial Board of Realtors. Deputy Mayor Todd Bettison did a great job summarizing the progress made by the City of Detroit in attracting commercial real estate investment to the city. The Marketable Record Title Act (MRTA) was designed to simplify and facilitate land title transactions by allowing persons to rely on record title and to extinguish stale claims against the title to real property beyond the 40-year period of time over which title will be reviewed.
On Thursday, March 28, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Senate Bill 721https://www.milta.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/SB-0721.pdf into law which amends the Marketable Record Title Act (MRTA). This legislation extends the date by which a person can preserve an interest, claim, or charge in a marketable record title to September 29, 2025. Originally the deadline for this was March 29, 2024. The bill extended the deadline by approximately 17 months.
